Meet Jonathan Dublin

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jonathan Dublin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jonathan, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Confidence and self-esteem have always been a part of who I am. My parents often remind me that, even as a child, I was outspoken and sure of myself. I hold a deep belief in my ability to grow; if there’s something I’m not good at, I know that with time and patience, I can master it. I’m the kind of person who isn’t afraid to ask for what I want and speak my mind.Music has always been one of those passions that have fueled my confidence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My artist name is JDU8Z, and I began making music in 2014 during my first year of college. Back then, I didn’t know exactly who I wanted to be or what my sound would become, but I knew I wanted to create music that resonated with me and others. In 2017, I released my debut EP, 2AM IN TAMPA BAY. The response from my peers confirmed that music was my true calling. Now, in 2024, I’m still creating and preparing to drop my new EP, The Daze Motel, in October. I coined the term “Daze Music” to describe my genre, and I can’t wait for the world to experience the new sounds I’ve been working on.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Adaptability and Adjustment: Life is unpredictable, and the ability to adapt and adjust is crucial. I learned early on that when things change, you have to be flexible and make the necessary adjustments to keep moving forward. Embracing this mindset shifted my perspective on both challenges and opportunities.

Be the Change You Want to See: I believe in the power of small actions. If I can do one good thing each day to improve my own life or uplift someone else, I consider it a success. This principle has not only guided my personal growth but also influenced the impact I hope to have through my music.

Persistence: In any journey, persistence is key. You have to keep knocking on doors until an opportunity opens. And if the front door doesn’t budge, don’t hesitate to try the side door. The important thing is to never give up, even when faced with obstacles.

Advice for Those Early in Their Journey:

My advice is to embrace experimentation. Be excited to try new things and step out of your comfort zone. It’s through experimentation that you discover what resonates with you and what doesn’t. This process is invaluable in shaping your unique voice and direction.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

In the past 12 months the biggest area of growth for me it learning to let go of perfection. Everyone has their own definition of perfection, but for me if I wait for perfection, Ill never put out my art/music. I know the music Ive been holding off on putting out is great already, people jut need to hear it. October they finally will hear what Ive been working on.
