Meet Jonathan Duff

We were lucky to catch up with Jonathan Duff recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonathan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I feel like I’ve always kind of known I’ve wanted to be on music. When I was 12 years old, I started leading worship for my youth group.

Played live 2 – 3 times a week since then lol. Just totally fell in love with playing and signing. Feel more alive on stage than anywhere else.

Started writing towards the end of Highschool. Had my first live EP come out when I was 19. Booked my first North America Church Tour a couple months after.

Instantly fell in love with traveling for music. Playing in different cities. Waking up everyday in a new place. Since then I’ve done 3 more tours, and am currently on my first Christmas Tour this month!

Started working with Grammy nominated producer David Cook. Working on my first Studio project with him. The whole EP is set to drop in 2025.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Right now I would say I’m touring more than anything else. Playing 2 – 3 tours a year. But currently working on my first Studio EP with Grammy nominated producer David Cook set to come out in 2025.

My favorite part of touring is the traveling. Love airports, waking up in new cities everyday is amazing. I am so grateful to get to do what I do for a living!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The most impactful and important thing in my life is my relationship with Jesus. Every song I write, every lyric I sing flows from my relationship with Him.

So grateful for the help, counsel, and guidance I have found through The Spirit of The Lord with me.

The second most important thing I would say is hard work ethic. A lot of people comment on my vocals or my stage presence saying I was born with it. But I’ve played over 7’000 songs live over the course of 8 or 9 years. Getting good at something takes time, hard work, and a lot of effort!

The final most Important thing I would say that has benefited my career is having someone to look up to and imitate. Worship singer Phil Wickham has been a family friend since I was a kid. Getting to learn from him and imitate what see him do on stage has I inspired my career a ton!

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Every morning I try to read The Bible. There is so much wisdom to be found within the pages. Everyday no matter that I’m going through. Somehow I always read exactly what I need to hear.

My greatest advice to anyone who is going into worship music is to work firstly on your relationship with God. Everything else will flow from it.
