Meet Jonathan Duff

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonathan Duff. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jonathan, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?

Resting between shows is one of the most important parts of touring. Every time I walk out on stage. I wanna give 100% of myself. I’ve found you need to develop habits that calm your body and clear your mind.

Playing tennis has definitely helped taking my mind off the stress of touring and music. Just focusing on the ball as it goes back and forth. I listen to a lot of classical music and take walks in nature.

Prioritizing sleep is the most important part. You absolutely need to be well rested on tour. When you’re busy and on the road. You won’t always have time to rest throughout the day. So making sure you get as much sleep as possible helps tremendously.

I’ve seen it improve music in ways I couldn’t imagine. You have more energy, you’re more happy, and your mental health is up. Self care is probably the most important part of any career.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m working a lot on myself right now. Even above music and touring. I’ve seen to many of my friends start strong and burn out.

I’m trying to learn that it’s not the end of the world if a release doesn’t go the way you planned. Or if you don’t sell as many tickets as you planned.

If you compare yourself to the best version of yourself. You will never be happy. In the end it’s about doing what you love. It’s why I started, and it’s why I keep going.

When I walk on stage, I do it cause I love it. Not cause I’m trying to be someone, or put on a show.

Sometimes you just have to let go and remember. “ I love music, and that’s all there is to it.”

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My relationship with God is my highest priority. I would be nothing without Him or His guidance in my life. Do what makes you happy outside of your career. I’ve found playing a couple matches of tennis every week helps me stay relaxed and rested. Take care of yourself. Don’t ruin who you are by over extending yourself. You will only burn out.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Focus on God. It’s so easy to focus on all that is going on around you. Sometimes you just need to remeber that He is for you. He is holding your life in His hands, and He loves you.

Trust in Him and His plan for your life. Above everything else.
