Meet Jonathan Faulkner

We recently connected with Jonathan Faulkner and have shared our conversation below.

Jonathan , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I honestly got my work ethic from my older brother and ironically my girlfriend. My brother would also have something new and cool and that motivated me to do the same as a I got order . Also my girlfriend Liz is a huge part of my work flow . Dating a multitalented person and watching them create a piece over a few days or even weeks is a process I as a photographer never experienced and seeing it made me want to more within my own craft .

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hey, my name is Jon also known as Machia . I am a fashion photographer but honestly shooting anything and everything excites me . As a photographer a camera is just a tool to me so everything around me is inspiring. Weather I’m outside or inside something has always caught my eye growing up ! Recently I got into fashion , portrait work and lighting which has been my endless fuel to photography. My end goal is travel the world and shoot for bigger fashion companies and mix automotive , sports snd editorial all into one genre or style .

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back over my career there’s some things that matter and some that I’ve learned don’t . Like lighting , style and colors are things over my journey that I’ve used to better my career but things like equipment , your camera type , etc doesn’t really put much restraint on me . Things like drive , passion and an overall appreciation to the way you approach your craft are really what’s needed to be an artist . I may be a photographer but I feel like for all true artist you need those things to be successful in whatever you want !

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I know this is gonna sound odd but if I was able to work with anyone hands down it would be any German car company. I would love to collaborate and cross over fashion , editorial and automotive in a new and refreshing way. Cultivating black culture into a scene that we aren’t yet big in and show true diversity within black people along side my dream cars in amazing environments.
