We were lucky to catch up with Jonathan Hoyos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jonathan, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
To gaze above, love, lament alone, create in hope, and wonder in awe—these are the experiences of humanity that drive progress and beauty. In that very nature, and through the experiences of my own life, I have a slight sense of my purpose: to be an example of what a human can achieve and to bring light to those who may be lost. My mind is full of the beauty in this world, but what good is it if I cannot help others capture that essence? Like a flickering flame on a high mast—small, certainly, yet a comfort to those lost at sea.
As much as the rough experiences of my youth have shaped the purpose I carry, it is also the quiet frames of life where I pause and gaze deeply. Staring peacefully at the scene before me reminds me that there is so much more to life than we often realize. People tend to search for someplace else to stand, but if—just for a moment—you look, you see, that where you stand now is exactly where you were meant to be.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hello, thank you so much for the opportunity to speak with you. My name is Jonathan Hoyos, born and raised in southern California. I come from a humble background that instilled in me a deep sense of resilience and determination. Even though I hold myself to a high self-esteem, I know that I know nearly nothing. Being only 23 years old as we speak, there is more for me to learn and understand. I hope that with time and effort, I can be better than I was yesterday. At the moment, I’m focused on building relationships and growing my company, “Z Empire Cleaning.” Currently, we are transitioning to eco-friendly solutions and creating more effective systems for our cleanings. A considerable amount of effort is also put into establishing partnerships with other entrepreneurs to help grow each other’s respective pursuits. What excites me about what I do is the work itself and being able to help people in need. I grew up with parents who taught me to be clean, but I also grew up alongside a brother with special needs who struggled to do so. Even as my heart broke for him, I knew he had the ability to do great things. Moments like those planted the seeds of ethics in my heart and in my mind. It wasn’t until the beginnings of my company where I learned that if there’s no good value in what you do, success may falter. It is those strong pillars of morality that keep your business alive.
I also have a strong passion for filmmaking. Being able to capture and show others the beauty that they may not otherwise notice means the world to me. Sometimes it’s the things that go unnoticed that leave the greatest impact.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say the three most important qualities that impacted my journey were amiability, patience, and determination. Being amiable or friendly opens doors to those who are more experienced than you. By showing an authentic willingness to learn and setting aside your ego, people will want to be around you and help you.
Having patience when times are rough is vital. You can’t force anybody to do anything. If the wind blows to force a man’s coat off, he will only hold on tighter—but when the sun slowly shines bright, he can’t help but take it off. Be patient, and good things will come.
Without determination, there’s no drive. You must be determined to get from point A to point B, no matter the detours along the way. I’ve made sacrifices in my life in hopes of reaching certain goals, and so far, I’m grateful I did.
I’m still early in my journey, with much more to learn. My advice—to myself and to others—is to stay persistent in these qualities.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I’m always open to meeting new people. Anyone who is open-minded and driven to do great things is welcome to reach out. We can only go so far alone—we truly are social creatures.
