Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonathan Marc Stein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jonathan Marc, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I think that one’s resilience can come from a variety of different sources. In my case, I think it comes from both my life experiences as well as having an amazing support system. Having gone through traumatic and other experiences throughout my life, enduring these past difficulties and surviving them makes my future struggles seem manageable. Without my incredible family, friends, and team, I do not know if I could have gone through it on my own.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hello! I am Jonathan Marc Stein, the Founder and Creative Director of my namesake clothing brand, JONATHAN MARC STEIN Atelier. I started my company in 2017 and create garments and accessories for men and women alike. We focus on creating luxury garments that emphasize bold styling and incredible tailoring all while utilizing sustainable practices. We aim to make each and every client who walks through our doors feel confident and badass in whatever they wear. Fashion has rarely been categorized as an inclusive industry and it is one of our goals to change the way people think about it and create positive evolutions for the future.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say these three qualities have been the most impactful in my journey as a designer:
Resilience. Fashion is an industry of constant change — trends, opinions, and opportunities shift overnight. What kept me
moving forward was learning not to take “no” as final, but instead as a redirection. For those starting out, practice building resilience by embracing setbacks as part of the process, not the end of it.
Vision. Technical skill matters, but what sets you apart is your point of view and what you bring to the world that no one else can. Early in your career, refine your vision by studying widely, experimenting boldly, and asking yourself what story you truly want to tell through your work.
Relationships. Creativity thrives in community. From mentors to collaborators to clients, relationships are what transform ideas into opportunities. My advice is to nurture authentic connections and to not network just to collect names, but to create meaningful exchanges.
For anyone at the beginning of their journey: strengthen these qualities step by step. Develop resilience by pushing through challenges, define your vision by exploring and experimenting, and invest in relationships by showing up genuinely. That combination has been invaluable to me, and it’s what I believe can turn potential into lasting impact.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My parents have always taken this role in my life. They always continued to guide me in a positive direction but still gave me leeway to make my own mistakes and correct them. Since the loss of my father, my mother has become my sole inspiration for where I want to direct my own life. Coming off 40 years of a high-level job in a Fortune 500 company, she constantly provides me advice and nourishment towards creating a healthy and successful business.
