Meet Jonathan Morse

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jonathan Morse. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jonathan below.

Jonathan, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Simple answer is that you don’t. Imposter syndrome is unavoidable for any person that starts something that they have never done before. When I started my own business, and working for myself I was going into uncharted territory. From a therapist mindset, I was fairly confident in my abilities to help my clients, however, I try to stay humble and I acknowledge that there is always something more that I can learn to help my clients. I am constantly learning and evolving my business to bring the most value I can.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I build relationships with my clients and work together with them to increase their quality of life. I do this by keeping their bodies moving and free from pain. I have several modalities that I use to help my clients with their issues. Frederick Stretch Therapy, formerly known as Fascial Stretch Therapy, or FST is my primary modality that I use to accomplish this. My favorite part of my work is the feeling that my clients have when they leave my table after their session is done- you can see the relief in their eyes! Seeing the progress my clients achieve over weeks, even months of consistent sessions, makes me feel like I am making a difference in their lives. I am currently working on more courses that can deepen my knowledge of facial stretching so my clients continue their progress even after they leave my table.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The words of my stretch teacher Ann Frederick “stay hungry, stay humble” come to mind when you ask about impactful qualities. Staying hungry meaning: never being satisfied with where you are at and what you have accomplished already. There is so much more you can do, so much more you can learn, and so much more you can bring to the table if you keep working at it, however, you need to stay humble enough to recognize that you do not know everything and you need to continue developing your craft. The most important quality or skill is the ability to not quit. You really need to show up everyday and put in the work as if your back is against the wall. The people in this world that leave a lasting legacy behind them are the ones that stick to whatever it is they chose to do with their life. There will be days and weeks that are harder than others, days where you want to quit, and do something easier, however, I find the key for me is to just keep showing up and keep putting in the work regardless.
My advice to those early in their journey is to create daily habits that keep you improving and keep you on track with your goals. You may fall off track, you may go through some tough times, but you have to be able to recognize when you are not on the right path and then make changes to help you create momentum that moves you towards your goals.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
That overwhelming feeling definitely happens from time to time and when it hits the first thing I do is take 5-10 big, deep, controlled breaths to relax and slow my heart rate down. I then take a step back and look at what it is that is making me feel overwhelmed. Often times I have a lot of things to do in a short amount of time, so in that case I prioritize my tasks. I find the most important things that need to be done first, then begin to check off one thing at a time on my to-do list making my way down the line until they get done.
There are times where I have things going on in my life and in my work that I can not seem to work through myself. This is where I rely on a lot of great people in my life who support me- my girlfriend, friends, and family members to help get me through.
