Meet Jonathan Ramos

We recently connected with Jonathan Ramos and have shared our conversation below.

Jonathan, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

Being optimistic has always been something that I’ve engraved into my mind to help me traverse through my day-to-day life. Even during my lowest points, I’ve always known that things end up getting better, even if it tends to take a while to kick in. Adopting an optimistic view rather than a pessimistic view has served to my benefit by helping me adopt a mentality where I know regardless of the circumstances I’m under, as long as I’m hopeful and put in the work, there will always be a brighter future ahead. Furthermore, knowing that there are people in the world that have gone through hardships in life and have managed to overcome those hardships, has filled me with the optimism I’ve used to push ahead every single day. Moreover, as a devout Catholic, God has always played a pivotal role in my optimism by bringing me joy and hope through His everlasting promises.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Ever since I graduated high school, I was unsure of what career path I wanted to follow. While attending community college, I dabbled in various courses to see what would interest me the most. Since I had always been naturally gifted at excelling in my math classes, I figured a career path related to math would be suitable for someone like myself. After thinking about various career paths to take, I decided to pursue an Accounting degree because I’ve always been fascinated by finance and eager to understand how businesses operate. Ever since the day I made up my mind to pursue an Accounting degree, my aspiration has been to one day become a Certified Public Accountant to help businesses with their financial needs.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Based on my journey, the most impactful qualities that have helped me were my persistence, willingness to learn, and coachability. To elaborate on this, by persistence, I mean that having the determination to always do the things required of me to reach the goals I set for myself has been a crucial component of my journey. When it comes to willingness to learn, I mean that my ability to always seek knowledge and gain wisdom has set me to succeed. Lastly, by being coachable, I mean that not being arrogant and seeking mentorship from people more knowledgeable than me in areas I’m interested in has had a beneficial impact on my life.

To folks who are early in their journey, the best advice I can give you to develop these qualities is to have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish and cultivate a growth mindset. By implementing this advice, I believe you will eventually come to the conclusion that the qualities I mentioned above-persistence, willingness to learn, and coachability- are foundational to achieving success.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

A book that has played an important role in my development is “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. I believe that if there is ever a book to read, this one should be at the top of the list. As someone who lacked social skills, I can attest to the fact that this book taught me the manner of how one should deal with people through its insightful strategies on effective communication, empathy, and building meaningful relationships. Some valuable nuggets of wisdom I learned were to show genuine interest in others and talk in terms of the other person’s interests in order to be a likable person.
