Meet Jonathan Robinson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonathan Robinson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jonathan, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

Self-discipline is something that was instilled in me from a very young age and I have to acknowledge the influential role my parents played in this respect. I think self-discipline has been a really important factor in enabling the achievement of my goals because it has given me the ability to juggle competing priorities. I’m sure anyone who has experienced the challenges of balancing their work and family commitments with growing a new business will be able to relate to this.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m originally from the United Kingdom and have been fortunate to travel extensively with my career, particularly in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. I settled in Queens, New York City, about 12 years ago and love it here! New York is so vibrant and has a unique energy quite unlike any other city I’ve visited. The city has also provided a fantastic platform to practice and strengthen my photography and grow my business given the wealth of creative opportunities available here. My passion for photography began at a young age (shooting film!) and I’ve experimented with different genres over the years (e.g. street, boudoir, landscape) before settling on portrait photography. I’ve established fruitful partnerships with several fashion designers and intend to expand my network in the coming year.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think it’s really important to approach your goals with an open mind. Don’t be afraid to try new things and adapt and adjust your approach, as needed. I think to succeed it’s really important to apply the knowledge and lessons learned in a constructive and practical way. It’s also helpful to network with other creatives, because this provides opportunities to learn and evolve, while opening doors to new business opportunities. Finally, it’s very important to pursue your own vision and develop a “signature” that defines your work. This should be something unique, that inspires curiosity and focuses people’s attention on your unique brand.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Definately! I’m interested in partnering with up and coming designers, models and other creatives and I’m also open to select collaborations on certain projects. I’m based in New York City but also travel to Philadelphia frequently and available for assignments in both cities.
