Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonathon & Anikka Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jonathon & Anikka, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my upbringing. At an early age I was taught to work hard, at 13 i started cutting yards to make money. I got my first official job as soon as i turned 16 at krogers. I believe that set the foundation for me to be a hard worker, that continued into my adulthood. Now I believe anything you want in life you have to plan and work hard towards that goal. Whether it be a career, fitness, or education. My wife and three kids keeps me motivated to keep going, so along with my work ethic and motivation I push myself to become better everyday.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Me and my wife, were both stressed from our jobs, and were looking to make more money in this economy. We came up with several business ideas for us to invest our money and time into before we landed on the cleaning service. We took both of our skills with me in marketing, and my wife Anikka in cleaning, and put them together to become a successful cleaning service. The most special part of the business is knowing i can leave something for our kids, and working with someone I truly love as a teammate.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The best advice I can give is have a good team. Our company would not have not been successful if it wasn’t for several people being really good at what they do. Whether it’s marketing, cleaning, or customer service. I always try to find the best of the best to bring on the team. Also I want to add to never give up, I learn early from my mistakes, and look at them at lessons to become better. In the beginning I made so many mistakes, but i never gave up and learn what to do and what not to do.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When i feel overwhelmed I take a step back. I might take a day or two off, go catch a movie, and then come back. I take it one day at a time. I set this business up in 30 days, by taking one to two hours each day, and after a month I had a whole business ready to go. If I had tried to set everything up in one to two days I would have been overwhelmed and probably gave up.
