Jonatta , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
In a world where diversity often defines our interactions, being the only one in the room who looks like me has been a profound journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Embracing my uniqueness and understanding my identity in Christ has been the cornerstone of my resilience. Rather than allowing differences to hinder my progress, I have leveraged my distinct perspective to bring fresh insights and innovative solutions to the table. Knowing who I am in Christ has not only fortified my sense of self-worth but has also instilled a deep sense of purpose and confidence. Instead of being intimidated by external disparities, I focus on being the best version of the person God created me to be, and I show up to add value, authentically, to the collective success of the diversity in every room I step into. This mindset has not only made me effective in navigating diverse environments but has also allowed me to thrive, overcoming societal norms and fostering a culture of compassionate understanding for those around me.

As the Director of Operations at From BTS Branding & Design, my journey has been a dynamic blend of experience, passion, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity. With a decade-long foundation in project management and administration, cultivated in the public sector and refined through entrepreneurship, I’ve always possessed a keen eye for branding – even in my early years. My entrepreneurial spirit, I have been aware of since middle school, fully ignited after the birth of my daughter in 2019, propelling me to immerse myself in the online marketplace. Now, at From BTS Branding & Design, an award-winning branding and design agency, I lead as the Director of Operations, steering a diverse portfolio of clients both domestically and internationally.
What excites me the most about my role is the transformative power of branding to shape and elevate businesses. Having been recognized for excellence, winning Best in Web Design in our headquarters’ city, is a testament to our commitment to innovation and quality. Looking ahead, our agency is excited to provide thought leaders, startup founders, and corporations with integrative solutions, cultivating authenticity within their communities. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three foundational qualities that significantly influenced my path include a relentless pursuit of wisdom, a commitment to depth and substance, and an unwavering steadfastness despite challenges. These principles have not only shaped my personal and professional growth but have become cornerstones in my approach to success.
First and foremost, the continual pursuit and honoring of wisdom have been pivotal. I’ve found that seeking knowledge and understanding from God and those assigned to impart into my life, coupled with a genuine openness to learning, has enriched my decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Embracing the depth of wisdom, rather than opting for shallow solutions, has been instrumental in navigating complexities with insight and clarity.
The second key quality is the dedication to substance and thoroughness. In a world that often encourages shortcuts and surface-level approaches, delving deep into the heart of matters has set me apart. Focusing on substance not only ensures a more comprehensive understanding but also contributes to the creation of lasting and meaningful outcomes. It’s about quality over quantity, depth over superficiality.
Lastly, remaining steadfast in the face of difficulties has been a non-negotiable aspect of my journey. Challenges are inevitable, but the ability to persevere, stay true to one’s purpose, and weather storms with resilience is what truly displays success. To those in the early stages of their journey, my advice is not only to cultivate these skills but to anchor them in a sense of purpose. By understanding their life’s purpose and seeking wisdom to serve those aligned with that purpose, individuals can pave a path to genuine success.
To those starting their journey, I encourage a focus on purpose-driven endeavors, letting it guide the acquisition of wisdom and the pursuit of depth. Challenges will undoubtedly arise, but viewing them as opportunities for growth and staying committed to the course will yield greater success than seeking alternative paths that may not align with their ultimate desires. In essence, success lies not just in achieving goals but in the fulfillment that comes from staying true to one’s purpose and weathering challenges with unwavering determination.
