Meet Jone Capone

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jone Capone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi JONE, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My name is Jone Jie-A-Fa Dyer AKA Jone Capone and I am a singer/rapper, and songwriter, who was born in Paramaribo, Surinam, which is in Northern-South America part of the Caribbean and West-Indies, known as the Dutch-Guyana. I am a multi-racial female, born on the third of January, a true Capricorn. I do not claim it but I represent the symbol of the Goat so, “I am the Goat! I am practical, ambitious, disciplined, a hustler. A hard worker I have been working as an HR Manager over 18 years and worked 3 jobs at one time not because I had to but because I like nice things so I can buy what I want, I never wait on nobody to get things for me. I am stubborn but very loyal and reserved! Finding my sense of self purpose is a creation of ones self journey, which is different for everyone. I discovered it late in life because it is a self reflection of my passions, strengths, values and experiences! As a young girl, I use to love music, singing, and dancing, acting in the mirror but I used to enjoy whistling, just like my dad! I could whistle an entire song from beginning to end. I had a record player and would play my records and sing my favorite songs of artists of all ages, from Perry Como, Barbara Streisand, Joe Cocker, Supertramp, Michael Jackson, Donnie Osmond, Bob Marley, Third World, Steel Pulse and Earth, Wind & Fire, which was my favorite band with my #1 song: Reasons. I could whistle it and sing Reasons, like I was the lead singer. I enjoyed a variety of music from Rock & Roll, Hard Rock music, Soul, Pop, Hip Hop and Kaseko. Kaseko is my musical genre from Surinam, derived from an Indo-Caribbean tradition. I get excited and engage when I hear a song/music that I love so I natural gravitate towards it, that creates my purpose. My values that were thought by my parents, who are both deceased, whom I miss dearly. They molded me in the person I am today. I am so grateful for all I have accomplished because of them. I am humbled. I am creating music that hopefully will make others happy or at least make them smile. I like to help others with the knowledge I have thru my life experiences, that gives me satisfaction! The music industry is very expensive and it could be a struggle for most because if you are young and talented without funds or a label to sign you, it might not be achievable to become an artist or it will be a struggle that will be very costly. On the other hand you could get lucky because some artists do make it big because their song went viral, not necessarily because they are talented or gifted but because they are great entertainers. Basically it is a gamble/risk, if you are willing to take it. I feel I have many purposes not only one because I have learned a lot myself and knowing what I went thru, just gives me the urge to help others, so I am not done yet. I am proud of what I have accomplished, I just finally finished my first album, that will be released soon. Besides my challenges followed by my experiences that lead me to my skills, my next goal is to help others and share my views & opinions, because I have met other artists that I linked up with and some that I am friends with, who helped me. So it is only natural for me to do the same, its like a chain-reaction. It’s all about observe, growth, change and purpose. What must be, will be! I always told myself I don’t have to become famous, what I am doing is satisfying to me that is what counts because look at what I have already accomplished, I am proud of myself. I hold a title of “Dance Queen of Suriname”, I moved to Florida in the 1980’s and signed up with “Casablanca” the biggest Movie Agency at that time and I played as an actress in “Miami Vice”, I released 5 music videos on YouTube/VeVo and my 9 songs are playing on most platforms! Everyone’s path is different so don’t worry about what people say because you can’t please everyone. Just be mindful take your time, stay humble and do what you love and what makes you happy. You will adjust your goal our purpose as you grow. If you don’t succeed try again because it is your journey and you set the pace for it with your mind and soul, be patient and compassionate to yourself and others. It is all about you and your destiny! Blessings! Love always, Jone Capone!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

MY NAME IS JONE CAPONE. I AM A SINGER/RAPPER & SONGWRITER

I have released 9 songs who are on most platforms like, Spotify, Apple-iTunes, Tidal, Amazon. I sing R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae
I have 5 videos out that you can see on YouTube & VeVo
You can follow me on FB, IG or TikTok _jonecapone_
I love to sing and rap, I sing a few genres but I like Dancehall rap/reggae music. I mostly do local performances. My newest rap “Bad Chat”, has a dancehall-jamaican swag. I like to show creativity and do use some aggressive lyrics but it is all done in fun. You have to read between the lines. Music is a form of art, I love to rhyme my lyrics and like them to have an impact. I am not aggressive and don’t condone violence, but I do use some hard lyrics but I do have a clean song you can listen to. To me it’s all about the message. “Bad Chat” is about self confidence, basically don’t disrespect me because I will act on it and I will let you know how I feel. It is also uplifting. We all are creative, so I will leave it up to the listener to decide. I sing different genres because I like to please everyone. So stay tune because I have a reggae and soca and more soul and rap coming out! Thanks for your support, Blessings!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My qualities are my lyrical abilities and techniques, impactful lines and storytelling. The goal is for a lyric or lyrics to be memorable for the listener. The flow and delivery of the lyrics make a big impact on the message in my songs. My skills come from steady practicing, being patient and also staying persistent, I try not to get distracted and I don’t give up! I could write a song in an hour, sometimes more than 3 hours, or days or like in the case of “Bang Bang” my second rap, that I wrote 10 years ago, it was released in 2023. I still wasn’t satisfied and wanted to change it, so I did. I added 2 more verses and deleted 1 verse, got a slower beat for it and “Bad Chat” was created. and released last year in October 2024. The beat or riddim of the music is also very important, you can have a song with a great message but if the beat is not great, the song won’t make it. We all know songs that have no substance or message but just one lyric in it, is sticking in your mind, and it goes viral just because the beat was awesome or the artist is well known so it will get a pass anyway, not to criticize anybody but it happened. I started in 2021 and I have learnt a lot in the last year, because I realized that it is very important to be directly involved and get the knowledge to be able to run your own business. This business is just like any other business, all about money! And it is very expensive and everybody tries to get a cut. And therefore the quality of real talent will get lost. I am fortunate that I have friends in the business that advise me and support me and believe in me. And I am grateful to them. It is all about sharing knowledge and caring about the progress of you and others, because it could benefit you in the long run, so stay focus and stay humble!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

So as I mentioned before, I like to do different genres. And I like collaborations, I am all for it and it seems that all artists are doing it now. I already did a reggae song named “Dolla Friend” Remix in collaboration with a friend of mine who is a Jamaican artist named Jah Lando. I originally wrote this song years ago and released it and I asked him to do 2 verses on it since it is my first reggae song, so we did a remix. I filmed the video of “Dolla Friend” in Jamaica and the Remix with Jah Lando was filmed in Wynwood, Florida. I did a explicit soul song with a great engineer, my mentor and friend Canaanforyah, that will be released soon. I did some local performances and was asked to do collaborations with artists that I don’t know and actually I was also asked to do one with an artist form India who is a great rapper, which I can’t wait to do. So I am picky but definitely open to discuss it. I can rock any genre, with a male or female artist, to me it is about the connection. We got to have the special interaction & energy. Only a artist can relate to what I mean. We as artists should have a great vibe between us, to be able to create a good song! So we have to talk, meet and we will know and hopefully create beautiful music!
