Meet Jonique’ Pharr

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jonique’ Pharr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jonique’, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose on a youth retreat. During the retreat I had been praying and asking God to reveal to me what my purpose was/is. We were attending an evening service and it was then in the midst of worship when I heard that my purpose was/is to help the youth. So I begin by mentoring and volunteering at youth/young adult facilities and then begin branching out to girls and women of all ages. It begin with putting together a clothing drive for youth girls in need, to hosting a series of workshops on self esteem and awareness, to now collaborating with Cots for the past two years and most recently hosting my very first Public workshop for women. It’s been a fulfilling journey and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Jonique’ Pharr, a wife, a mother, a sister, and friend. I grew up on Detroit’s eastside and have stories and experiences “for days.” I’m my mom’s eldest of six and enjoy being a part of a large family. Cass Technical High School is where I attended and proceeded to Cleary University for my BA. As we know, life continues to evolve and so did I.

But, there was a name before there was a business; my close girlfriend began customizing clothing and decided she wanted us to go to this networking event. Upon going to the event we decided to get business cards made. At the time, I didn’t have a business but was still willing to go along in support of my friend. So there we were at Staples and right there on the spot the name J.Inspirations came to me out of nowhere. I knew exactly what I wanted on the cards too. Once I found my purpose, the name made perfect sense.

Thus we have J.Inspirations an Outreach Program hoping to Help, Uplift, and Inspire all of those we come in contact with. We host self awareness workshops, we host clothing drives for those in need, we collaborate with other like minded businesses and we hope we are Inspiring people daily.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe that being transparent about who I am, my own experiences, and what my intentions are has been very beneficial. People need to know that they’re not alone in their challenges and need the reassurance that this whatever their “this” is will pass. Supporting and Encouraging people can go a long way.

My advice is to be authentic in whatever your business is and the service it’ll provide. When being authentic it sets you apart and how you choose to operate your business will be natural because you’re showing up in and through your business as your true self.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Being consistent has been a challenge and strong suit as of recent. I’ve come to understand that even when you’re living in your purpose, there will still be times when you don’t feel like doing it . When you don’t feel like talking, or showing up, or working out but having self discipline, attainable goals and being consistent will help you and your business continue to grow.
