Meet Jonny Thomas

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonny Thomas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jonny , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I developed my confidence by continuously putting myself outside of my comfort zone. I think I enjoy being uncomfortable in some senses — as in I’ve always had a desire to explore new terrain — but when it comes to turning my passion into a business, it’s been year after year of pushing my limits. At a certain point, a good amount of confidence naturally comes with that type of exploration.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a longtime visual artist turned regenerative landscaper. Regenerative landscaping is an approach to landscaping that considers things such as: soil health, wildlife habitat, self-resilience & food production, and ecological restoration. We also want our gardens and landscapes to be visually dynamic, of course, which is also a very engaging aspect of the work for me. We have a super fun team who are all passionate about what we do and a very inspiring client base. This year we’re launching a bicycle-based garden maintenance service where one of our teammates, an avid cyclist, manages some our urban beautification projects on a custom bicycle-landscape-trailer rig. Super fun stuff!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Diligence, Adaptability, Patience.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

Scaling a business that you started purely from passion is wild. I operated mostly on intuition for the first few years, learning the business stuff on the fly. You can’t scale a business that way, that’s for sure. The keys to my growth have been 1) grow mindfully (not too fast) and 2) the team is everything. Truly, relationships can make or break a business. Without the support of my team and creative network, there’s a really good chance I would’ve burnt out a long time ago. Shoutout to Eric, Cameron, Samantha and Matthew!
