Meet Jordan Cordel

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Cordel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.

Hi Jordan , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Honestly, I think it builds by working hard to accomplish my goals and being proud of the end result. Whatever is in my heart, I go for it whether difficult or challenging. I believe I can do whatever I put my mind to because my journey has shown and proven, no matter how many times I get knocked down, I’ll always get up. I’ll always figure it out and if I can’t depend on anyone, I know I can count on me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I love and value education, it’s something I always share with others because I want them to know that even if you have a dream in the entertainment industry, you don’t have to stop your education to pursue it. I currently am a MBA Candidate at McCombs School of Business at The University of TEXAS at Austin. It is one of the top 20 business schools in America and I am studying entrepreneurship to elevate my skills and build connections. I also run my own LLC called The Firm:FCP (Financial Consulting Professionals) where I teach middle and high school students financial literacy. It’s important that I give back and do something that makes a positive impact on people’s life. I want to continue to inspire and show what is possible when you believe in yourself.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’m glad my dad encourage me to write songs as a teenager. He got me a journal when I was about 14 and told me to write out my ideas instead of keeping them in my head. It became very therapeutic for me. Traumas and life experiences that I packed away were able to be expressed and it help me to release a lot of pain I was feeling from my childhood into relationships as young adult. Writing was a way to paint the picture in song certain things that were going on in my life that I didn’t have the words for originally. Additionally, I never stopped honing my skill as singer, start from church to choir in school to eventually working with a vocal coach, protecting my voice has always been important to me. Lastly, I’d say I have the skill to make connections with people in any space. I’m so grateful for opportunities and rooms that I’ve been able to be in but that all because I put myself out there. If I could give any advice to someone reading this, I was say always be authentic. People can tell when you’re not being genuine so always lead with originality, charisma, and passion.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Honestly, my challenge right now is just getting out of my own way. I have great opportunities in front of me and sometimes when we are afraid of growth and evolving, we can sabotage ourselves by wanting to stay the same and not leave our comfort zone but the unknown is where our dreams lies. I’m working on transforming into a better version of myself, not to say I’m not a good person or great artist but it’s always room for improvement. I never want to be the thing standing in the way of what’s next for me. I want to be ready for everything on its way to me.
