Meet Jordan Gombs

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jordan Gombs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jordan, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

My optimism comes from me understanding that everything happens for a reason. I always believe that everything happens for a reason to make you grow as a person!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hi, my name is Jordan Gombs. I’m a photographer from Philadelphia and I’m currently senior at Delaware Valley University. I am also a part of the Delaware Valley University men’s basketball team. During my junior season, I suffered a injury to my knee and deuces injury. I had to take a good amount of time away from the team to recover. With that time away from the team I was able to focus some of my time on learning more about photography.
The opportunities I’ve gained from photography has been amazing being able to shoot at division one games to local college games and high school game has been great. The people have met on this journey has been of being influence on me as well. Just wanted to get out there more and be able to make more connection people. My main purpose in my photography business is to capture memories that people will have forever.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

One of the skills that has impacted my journey so far is communication. Communication has been key in my journey so far because with photography, you are communicating with different people from different backgrounds and you have to be able to communicate with everyone an effective way. Also with communication is help me with being able to talk to people that have been in the field longer and I’ve been and being able to get help from those individuals. Something else that has been impactful on my journey is just being patient. Patience is key because when you’re learning, you have to take the time to really invest in your craft to understand that everything isn’t gonna go exactly as planned right away so it’s understanding that it takes a lot of growth to get to your full potential. In my journey so far, I have had countless people help me with developing my photography skills and just being able to learn more about photography. Two of the people I feel has always help me countless times and in different ways with photography has been Kee Vandaway and HH Visions. My advice to anyone starting their journey with photography or anything else is just to stay consistent and keep trying new things.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing that my mom and my aunts have done for me is just teaching me to stay positive in every situation no matter what life goes my way. From a young age they’ve always taught me that adversity is going to happen and the only thing that you could do is focus on how to better yourself after that adversity occurs.
