Meet Jordan Ryan

We recently connected with Jordan Ryan and have shared our conversation below.

Jordan , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience has been shaped over time through challenging experiences. Military training instilled in me grit, intestinal fortitude, and self-confidence. Special operations training presents daily, herculean challenges—evolutions filled with pain, misery, cold, and discomfort. Yet, we persevere.

We often underestimate our own capabilities, a realization that dawns when we venture beyond our comfort zones. This is where transformation happens. In special forces training, each “evolution” signifies more than just a training segment; it symbolizes the process of transformation—trainees are tempered into hardened warriors, much like steel forged under heat and pressure.

Entrepreneurship bears similarities, characterized by daily encounters with dynamic, complex, and critical problems. Nonetheless, we show up, tackle these challenges head-on, and over time, what once seemed daunting now appears manageable, even trivial, reflecting our growth in resilience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Following an injury in the military that led to job loss, I found myself in a difficult place—stressed, in pain, and struggling with the loss of my identity, which had been deeply tied to my job. Attempting to manage my condition through conventional means brought little relief and numerous side effects.

It was then I turned to adaptogens—natural substances that could potentially help the body adapt to stress, boost immunity, and fight inflammation. Despite their bitter taste and my occasional forgetfulness, their benefits sparked an idea. What if incorporating these healthful habits could be as simple and enjoyable as drinking morning coffee?

Thus, WindanSea Coffee was born, blending adaptogens with premium organic coffee. Starting with infused whole beans, we’ve since expanded our range to include a variety of functional coffee products. This year, we introduced our Mushroom Powder drink line, featuring blends like Loco Mocha, Magic Matcha, and Moonlight Latte.

I take pride not only in simplifying holistic wellness for busy individuals but also in our commitment to supporting veterans. We strive to educate, advocate, and empower veterans towards holistic wellness through adaptogenic supplements, outdoor therapy, and community outreach, acknowledging their sacrifices by supporting their transition back to civilian life. A portion of our proceeds goes to veteran nonprofits, like One More Wave, which provides surf therapy to wounded warriors.

As we look to the future, our focus is on expanding our online presence, broadening our distribution to cafes nationwide, and continuing our mission to assist veterans through holistic wellness. This is just the beginning.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Be Fearless Echoing the sage advice of Frank Herbert, “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.” Fear obscures our judgment, shifting our cognitive processes from our prefrontal cortex to our more primal brain regions. In this state, our vision narrows, focusing only on the immediate, which, while useful in prehistoric times, limits our ability to find creative solutions in today’s world.

Put yourself out there
Success is where preparation meets opportunity. Despite all efforts to prepare, true opportunities arise when we step beyond our comfort zones. If you want to build a brand, create a company, or elevate your status, you have to aggressively put yourself out into the world. You have to sharpen your pitch by practicing it in front of people. People who might reject you! AHH SCARY. But by being fearless and facing rejection, one builds resilience. Resilience creates the fortitude necessary to endure failure without folding. If you can endure long enough, you will succeed.

Don’t need to be perfect
Imperfect action beats perfect inaction. You will never be able to control all the variables. Therefore you will never be able to execute perfectly. Who cares??? Just do SOMETHING. If you try, you might be successful. If you’re not, you will have learned what not to do. Like Thomas Edison said, “I never once failed at making a light bulb, I just found 99 ways not to make one.” Your biggest regret will always be the chances you didn’t take.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents instilled in me a strong set of values. From my mother, I learned the importance of generosity, kindness, compassion, and resilience. My father exemplified the potential of a successful career in entrepreneurship and inspired my decision to join the military. Together, they nurtured in me the qualities of boldness, independence, integrity, a drive to serve others, and the perseverance to never give up in the face of adversity.
