We were lucky to catch up with Jordan Schoettner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
As a content creator and Disney travel agent, overcoming imposter syndrome was a journey that involved a lot of personal growth and perseverance. I started out as a stay-at-home mom looking for ways to bring in income, and after experiencing the ups and downs of running a business, I realized that my hard work and dedication were what got me where I am today.
At first, it was easy to feel like I didn’t belong in the world of content creation, especially when comparing myself to others who seemed more established. But I reminded myself that every success I’ve had—whether it was leading a team, launching my Etsy store, or becoming a Disney travel agent—came from taking risks and believing in my abilities. By focusing on my unique journey, my passion for family-friendly content, and my love for travel and adventure, I began to trust my voice more.
I leaned into the support of my family, who reminded me of how far I’ve come, and I embraced the idea that I have something valuable to share. Now, I see my experiences as strengths rather than something that makes me feel like an outsider. It’s all about owning my story, trusting the process, and showing up authentically.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
What I find most exciting about what I do is the ability to inspire families to create their own adventures, whether it’s at a theme park or exploring unique spots in Colorado. Recently, I’ve been traveling more often to the Disney parks to expand my travel portfolio, ensuring my clients get the best tips, insights, and personalized planning for their trips. Along with that, I’m branching out locally, working closely with small businesses to create custom content that highlights their offerings and builds connections within the community. For me, it’s all about balancing those big magical experiences with supporting the gems in our own backyard.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, three qualities that have been the most impactful include adaptability, perseverance, and storytelling. When I transitioned from direct sales to content creation and travel planning, I had to be adaptable. Life doesn’t always go as planned, and learning to pivot allowed me to seize new opportunities I hadn’t expected. Perseverance was just as essential. There were many long nights and moments of doubt, especially as I balanced family and business. But I kept going, and the consistency paid off over time. Storytelling became the heart of my brand, allowing me to connect authentically with my audience. Whether I’m sharing travel tips or highlighting local Colorado businesses, the ability to tell a compelling story has brought everything together. For those early in their journey, I’d say, embrace change, keep pushing forward, and always share your authentic voice. Your unique story is your biggest asset.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for brands and businesses to partner with that align with the family-friendly, travel, and local content that I share on my platforms. I’m particularly interested in work opportunities where I can showcase my photography and videography skills, whether through UGC (user-generated content) or website collateral. If you’re looking for creative, high-quality content to represent your brand or business, I’d love to connect and explore how we can work together! Feel free to reach out to me via my social media or website.
