Meet Jordan Turchin

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Turchin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.

Hi Jordan, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

While we’ve grown into a boutique resort over the years, we are deeply rooted here on the farm in nature. That close relationship with Mother Earth, being a constant witness to the cycle of life – birth, growth, decomposition- has been the best teacher and guide when it goes to resilience. Take a seed, it’s pushed deep into darkness, with immense pressure, and then only if the conditions are right will it sprout. From there, it grows but the elements persistently test its fate. And if you look around there is growth everywhere, despite the perceived setbacks. Everything in nature has to be resilient. And we are, after all, nature. So we just take a deep breath, embrace our surroundings, and step into the flow.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am the Steward at The Horse Shoe Farm outside Asheville, North Carolina. The Horse Shoe Farm is a family owned boutique farm resort that we started in late 2017. I work with my wife (Rachel), my parents (John & Susan), and over 50 beautiful souls that daily put their heart, grace, and presence into showing up for our guests here on the farm. There is a deep magic to the land and mountains in this region, and the amplification of that energy is at the signature of the experience guests feel on the farm. You can drop in here and BE (yourself, connected, nourished, inspired, or rested, to name a few). To witness that day in and out is an otherworldly gift and the biggest blessing of stewarding this project. Whether you are sleeping here for 1 day or 5, dining with us at The Silo Cookhouse (our farm to table restaurant) or getting nurtured in our holistic healing space, The Stable Spa, we really care for your journey on the farm and hold the space for you to be one with it.

Up on deck, is a collaboration with a native Cherokee Elder, Wisdom Keeper and Ceremonialist to share the indigenous teachings of the land and people with the community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1.To Listen- To yourself, your intuition, the natural world, and those that love and care for you. That’s number one. Every life is on a journey and you need to tune in deeply so you can move with clarity in yours. Which, of course, is bumpy, so embrace it.
2.Step by Step- I don’t get bogged down in how to get something big down. It’s one foot in front of the other. Small steps can take you a long way after a while. The important thing is to be moving, there is no such thing as a wrong direction, just pivot, and if you are moving slowly on small steps that’s easy to do.
3, Patience- You’ve got to be comfortable waiting and hanging out in the void. Things take time and it’s a blessing that they do. But if you are patient and listening, it will always unfold in your highest favor.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes, we are always looking for folks to collaborate with. What’s life if you’re not doing it together.
We love connections with people who are authentically themself, have a huge heart, and a lot of integrity. Since our canvas is quite large here the realms of food and beverage, wellness and unique experiences are in our wheelhouse. Just reach out to the farm by email and ask for me… it’ll get there 🙂
