We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jordan Walker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
By staying authentic. I realized what works for me, and stuck with that . I never cared about blowing up on social media, or gaining clout . I genuinely just wanted to be considered one of the best at what I do, by the results of what I do. I think for me that just comes from how I was raised. Nobody I ever looked up to did the most.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a basketball skills trainer. The special part about that is building bonds with your players. As well as seeing the improvement over time. Watching them reach their goals. Seeing a kid who isn’t very skilled, spending weeks and months with them. Then going to see them play and noticing the improvements.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Hmm. I would say being a great listener, being open minded, and always never being satisfied. It’s easy to get content once a little success comes your way. But for me, I don’t even really notice the small wins because I’m thinking about what the next task will be. Not saying I won’t celebrate them, but never getting too high or too low is the balance I try to maintain.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is for them to be a dog. Someone who’s going to fight when times get hard. Someone who never will give up. That’s the type of client I mesh with the best. I’m always up til 2 or 3 am watching film. Or on my lunch break at work watching film. So once you find someone who has the same dedication to their craft, as you do yours. It makes the work not even feel like work.
