We recently connected with Jordan Willaby and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Interior design has been something I’ve loved for as long as I can remember, but finding my purpose goes way beyond design. From a young age, I feel as though God has gifted me with creativity and the ability to find beauty in the ordinary. My goal in design is to help people create spaces they love – where they can host family and friends, bring their babies home to, have a more functional place to cook meals, and be a refuge where they start and end their days. Though I love working with my clients to design intentional homes, my greater purpose is to use these gifts and talents I’ve been given to glorify my Creator.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a residential interior designer based in MN and after working in the industry for a number of years, I started my own design firm, Willaby Way, in 2020. This summer, I was able to celebrate my entrepreneurial journey with a 5 year anniversary party, which was such a joy! Being able to see a vision come to life and create spaces that make my client’s homes more intentional, functional, and special is what I love to do.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The words that come to mind when I think of qualities I want my business to be known by are intentional, kind, and timely. I’ve strived to be intentional with the ways I’ve grown my business, developed my brand, and designed projects. Kindness goes a long way and respecting those around you can impact everything. Being punctual, sticking to deadlines, and communicating in a timely manner helps to keep projects moving and gives clear expectations. It’s taken time to develop these qualities, but slowing down while looking ahead has allowed me to keep them at the forefront.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past 12 months, I’ve grown in realizing that time is the most valuable asset we have in life. With owning a business and being a mom to two young kids, it can often feel like the days just fly by. Because of that, I’ve been focusing on how to be intentional with how I spend time in & out of work. That comes in the form of only taking on projects that excite me and feel in line with my brand, spending less time on my phone, and planning my days intentionally. Seeing each day as a new opportunity and recognizing the moments of margin in my day has helped me to savor time rather than rushing through it.
