We recently connected with Jordan Young and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I would give credit to my parents and how I was raised, they helped me build a strong work ethic through example. They always modeled what it meant to be engaged mentally and physically, be committed from start to finish, and take pride in anything you do no matter how small the task. Watching them work hard for our family taught me to approach every school project, job, or art piece with the same dedication.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a sculptural artist drawing inspiration from nature and my local environment, this inspiration led me to branch out and work with other materials. While my main focus is the ceramic arts I also have found it exciting to branch out and work with other mediums such as metal and glass. Working in a glass studio is a fast paced and invigorating environment which is a stark contrast to working in a ceramic studio.
Going into the next year I hope to expand my etsy shop and grow my business with new and exciting products.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Qualities and skills that were pivotal on my journey to become an artist are work ethic and consistency, curiosity to explore new materials and ideas, and the importance of community or a mentorship. The knowledge and qualities I have gained throughout my art career have made a significant positive impact on my business.
My advice to new artists would be, keep an open mind and stay curious about new materials and ideas, build a strong work ethic, and seek out a community that supports these ideals.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Over the past year I have lost access to my personal art studio. While this is a setback it has not stopped me from working on new ideas and projects to be completed when the studio is back up and running. I am in the process of researching local studios to gain access and begin working on my current art projects.
