Meet Jordyn Ward

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordyn Ward. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordyn below.

Jordyn , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

In the photojournalist world there’s always people who have been doing it for decades longer than you and sometimes not as welcoming. And as someone who kind of picked up their camera and just ran with it and kept getting more opportunities I felt as if I earned it less. But what I started to realize as time went on and what I tell myself at every event is that I was invited here same as everyone else is the fact that I have this opportunity means that I deserve it or I wouldn’t have it and it gets me through that feeling of I’m not supposed to have this kind of success

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My Names Jordyn Ward I’m a photo journalist/ editorial photographer focused on pop culture and fashion. Iv grew up with a love for taking photos very young the feeling of legit just looking through the view finder and clicking that button and just capturing a cool moment in time always brought me this rush of creative fulfillment. And I would always go to extreme lengths to the get those shots I climbed a building in middle school with my point and shoot to get a picture of a shed sure it wasn’t a great photo but it showed promise haha! Now I’ll be out at nyfw in February living my biggest dream doing something I’ve always talked about

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Weirdly enough impatience I never just waited for an opportunity I always ran for it and just grabbed it .

Confidence, the ability to know that I’m good at what I do and I can do anything I desire to because I’m good at what I do

Being kind,. Above all else your demeanor and the way you love and treat others will determine who you are as a person and where you will go

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

I think the industry expects you to be super well rounded almost to the point of impossibility but what I would say is the smartest thing to do is to go all in on your strengths and master them become the best version of that skill and then once you’ve done that then branch out and add things to your skill tree. No point of being a jack of all trades if you can’t do any of those things well
