We recently connected with Jörg Hüttner and have shared our conversation below.
Jörg, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic in large part from my upbringing in Germany and the way I was raised by my parents. Not only was homework for school to be done and finished thoroughly, but also other stuff, like when I started something as a hobby (airplane models as an example). In short, if something was started, it was expected that I would go through with it, and also at best possible ability and quality.
Doing something “half-assed,” as we tend to say, was basically a no-go and frowned upon. This obviously got ingrained in me and therefore also shows in my professional work. I always try to deliver work at the highest level of quality I can produce.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a music composer, synthesizer programmer, and sound designer, and my love for electronic music and synthesizers started as a hobby at an early age and became my profession after I finished high school in Germany.
I compose music for TV, film, and trailers, and one of my last projects was designing sounds and writing the music for a new car entertainment system developed by Harman Kardon Automotive. This new setup was presented in a demo car at the 2025 CES in Las Vegas.
Another part of my job is designing and developing sounds for electronic instrument manufacturers, no matter if hardware or software. Just a few days ago, the German music brand “Native Instruments” released a new software instrument called “Circular,” for which I was invited to design sounds.
It’s exciting to walk into my studio every day surrounded by cool instruments and basically “playing” for the most part. While there are also days that suck like in every profession, I’m aware how lucky I am to be able to do this.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My interest in electronic instruments, and first and foremost synthesizers, had me learning a lot about how to use them and being creative with their abilities. This got me in touch with a lot of film composers looking for unique sounds for their projects. This opened the doors not only to moving to the US back in 2007, but also to just about all my business contacts that I built over my career.
And then building up a lot of general knowledge about computer music production systems and software programs was a big plus, too, since this work has been heavily computer-based already for decades now.
Finally, being a reliable professional delivering top-quality work definitely makes the rounds and will lead to a lot of recommendations by word of mouth. At least, that happened to me.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
It might be surprising to hear this, but finding excellent and reliable singers is even more difficult in an entertainment city like Los Angeles. A good vocalist is challenging to come by, but a good voice can elevate a large variety of music productions, whether it is music with lyrics or without. The human voice is an incredibly versatile instrument, and definitely not something I can provide myself. You do not want to hear me sing… 🙂
While I collaborate with some, different vocal tones can be useful for different styles or productions, so I’m always on the lookout for vocal talent. I have a contact form on my website in case someone is interested.
