We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jose Barraza. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jose below.
Jose, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I feed my creativity the same way I’d feed a fire, by giving it fuel. I explore new experiences, learn from different cultures, and give myself permission to experiment and fail. The more I stay curious, the more ideas come naturally.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a food content creator and recipe developer, and what I love most about my work is transforming simple ingredients into something that inspires people to cook at home. My specialty is creating vibrant, approachable recipes with a creative twist, dishes that feel special but are still easy for everyday cooks.
What excites me the most is the storytelling behind food. Every recipe I share has a piece of my culture, my travels, or a personal experience. I want people to not only try a dish but also feel a connection to where it comes from.
Lately, I’ve been focused on sharing healthier recipes while keeping the flavors, colors, and roots of the food I grew up with. I want to offer the dishes that we Mexicans love, but with a lighter, more nourishing twist—as I always say, ‘my way.’
At the heart of my brand is the belief that cooking should be joyful, colorful, and approachable. If my content encourages even one person to pick up a pan and create something delicious, I feel I’ve done my job.”*

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Curiosity has driven everything I do. I’m always experimenting with flavors, techniques, and ways to present food that feels exciting and approachable. For anyone starting out, I’d say: stay endlessly curious, taste, read, travel, and never stop asking ‘what if?’
Consistency has been crucial. Creating content is a long game, sometimes without getting any type of motivation or pay, and showing up regularly, whether it’s developing recipes, filming, or posting, builds trust with your audience. My advice is to create a schedule you can actually stick to and treat every piece of content as a step forward, and don’t burn yourself out!
Adaptability has allowed me to grow. Trends, platforms, and audiences evolve, and being open to change has helped me refine my brand without losing my essence. For beginners, I’d say: learn the rules, but don’t be afraid to try and make them your own.
At the end of the day, passion is what fuels all three. If you love what you’re creating, it’s easier to stay curious, consistent, and adaptable.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced recently has been managing my health, both physical and mental. I’ve dealt with psoriasis for years, which at times has really affected my confidence and self-esteem. On top of that, struggling with my weight and overall health started to impact not just how I felt physically, but also my mental well-being.
The turning point came when I decided to take control and prioritize myself. I worked closely with my doctor, adjusted my diet to focus on nourishing foods, incorporated movement into my routine, and paid attention to my mental health. Little by little, I started to feel like myself again, regaining my confidence, energy, and happiness.
What I’ve learned is that health is the foundation for everything, including creativity. Taking care of myself has allowed me to show up stronger in my work and my life, and I want to inspire others to know that change is possible if you take that first step for yourself.
