We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jose Castaneda. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jose below.
Hi Jose , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
At a young age, I knew I wanted more for myself. By the time I was about 12 years old, I was already taking on odd jobs to earn money for the things I wanted. I had a paper route and mowed lawns for extra cash. Those experiences gave me the opportunity to earn my own money and taught me the importance of hard work. I learned early on that doing a good job came with its rewards, and that lesson shaped the work ethic I carry with me today.
I have always been interested in being self-employed. At a young age, I combined that ambition with my love for cars, and that’s when I decided I wanted to pursue a career in the automotive business. I spent the majority of my life learning this trade, gaining experience and knowledge along the way.
In 1996, after working as a mechanic for many years, I was finally able to purchase my own business, All European Advantage, a full-service European car specialist shop. The business has been open ever since, and this upcoming year will proudly mark our 30th year in operation.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Today, we are a family-owned and operated full-service automotive shop. We specialize in exotic and European vehicles, but we are fully equipped to work on any make or model—including domestic vehicles like Ford and Chevrolet.
We strive to provide excellent customer service and build strong, long-lasting relationships with our customers. It’s important to us that our business continues to grow while also keeping our loyal, returning customers coming back year after year. We take great pride in being part of this industry for more than 30 years and are truly passionate about the work we do.
As a smaller shop, we place a strong emphasis on personal service. We make it a priority to connect with our customers and keep them informed throughout every step of the repair process, no matter how big or small the job may be.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, there are three qualities and areas of knowledge that had the biggest impact on my journey: work ethic, technical mastery, and relationships.
First, work ethic.
Learning the value of hard work at a young age shaped everything that came after. Showing up consistently, taking pride in your work, and doing the job right—even when no one is watching—builds a reputation that follows you. For those early in their journey, my advice is simple: be reliable, take initiative, and never cut corners. The habits you build early will define your career.
Second, technical skill and continuous learning.
The automotive industry is always evolving. Mastering your trade and staying current with new technology was critical to my success. Early on, I focused on learning as much as I could—asking questions, learning from mistakes, and constantly improving my skills. My advice is to never stop learning. Invest in training, seek out mentors, and be willing to adapt as the industry changes.
Third, building strong relationships.
Whether it’s with customers, coworkers, or suppliers, relationships matter. Treating people with honesty, respect, and transparency builds trust, and trust builds long-term success. For anyone starting out, focus on communication and integrity. Listen to your customers, keep them informed, and stand behind your work. Those relationships will become the foundation of your business.
If you commit to working hard, mastering your craft, and treating people right, success will follow. These qualities don’t develop overnight, but with consistency and dedication, they will serve you for a lifetime.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Our ideal client values quality work, honest communication, and long-term relationships. They understand that maintaining a vehicle properly is an investment and trust our expertise to do the job right. Whether they drive an exotic, a European vehicle, or a daily driver, they’re looking for a reliable shop they can count on—not just a one-time repair.
