Meet José De La Cruz

We were lucky to catch up with José De La Cruz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi José , appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

The singer- songwriter Jose De La Cruz “Jochy D”
Jochy D was born in the Dominican Republic on November 5th. His real name is Jose A. de la Cruz.  But he was given the nickname “Jochy” when he was just a toddler, and he is known by the majority and in social media as Jochy.
His parents serve as pastors of one of the churches in Santiago, Dom. Rep.  They are the ones who instructed him in the ways of the Lord.
Jochy D , has an amazing testimony,
Since 1992, Jochy has shown muscular weakness in one of his legs.  After many hospital visits, the doctors were puzzled for they could not diagnose his condition.  Therefore, they could not help him.  They thought that he would soon be bound to a wheelchair.  This abnormality in his leg caused him to suffer a scoliosis (a lateral curvature of the spine), which eventually could affect his lungs.
After so many prayers and petitions, in 2004 a medical foundation from the USA came to Santo Domingo to perform spinal surgeries to children in need of them.  Jochy was one of these children who underwent surgery to reduce his malformation on the spine.  However, while he was on the operating table, the doctors were lamenting that he would not survive the night.  They began to prepare the family for the worst; they even offered to cover the funeral expenses.  Jochy’s parents continued to pray and to trust in God.  They could not accept what they heard from the doctors. “The God we serve doesn’t work like this” they said.  They trusted that if God opened the door for the surgery to take place, the surgery would not be a failure.  At dawn, the next day, Jochy showed sign of life for the glory and honor of God.  The doctors and the medical personnel marveled at what they just witnessed.  They could not believe it.
From that experience, the Lord gave Jochy the inspiration to write songs.  He wrote “I am grateful,” his first production, which he launched the summer of 2007
