Meet Jose Garzon

We were lucky to catch up with Jose Garzon recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jose, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.

It’s hard to burnout when you’re working on your passions. I also prioritize time with family , friends and try to do other stuff I have a passion for. Writing music is a big one for me. I was a touring musician for 15yrs before being a chef. Music is a big part of my life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Jose Garzon and I’m an immigrant from Ecuador living in Seattle. I’m the chef and owner of BAD CHANCLA in Capitol Hill/Seattle. I’m also responsible for concepts like: GARZON • LATINX STREET FOOD , LOLAS SUPPER CLUB and CHIFA BABY!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Consistency is key! I think many people fail because 1. They’re doing for the wrong reasons and 2. When things get hard, they quit! Find real passion in whatever you’re doing and things will always work out.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

The restaurant industry is in crisis mode since Covid. Many restaurants groups with 20-30yrs in are closing their doors. Adapting and using social media and tech is key these days and many didn’t want to get up to date. Most of our advertising is through social media and collaborations with other businesses in our community. That’s has helped up a lot t keep afloat.
