Meet Jose Ludovino Sanchez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jose Ludovino Sanchez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jose Ludovino , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
It must be from structured sports, participating for over 10 years in competitive swimming, With 13 swimming workouts per week, twice a day plus one on Sunday at peak training, for approximately 70 kilometers a week. To learn to continue when in pain or in cold weather gets you in the right mindset, ready for anything that comes along the way.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As an architect, I specialize in designing unique homes that serve as havens amidst the chaos of modern life, promoting contemplation and mindful living through their harmonious simplicity. As lead designer of Praxis Architecture, we’ve contributed to the transformation of Florida with the design of over 300 homes, elevating the discourse on world-class design in the region.

I am currently enthusiastic about an upcoming panel discussion where I will delve into the rich tapestry of the Past, Present, and Future of Design in Florida. Additionally, the prospect of witnessing 25 of our designs taking shape in currently under construction, will be very exciting to see them all finished.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Primarily, effective communication and a foundation based on common sense have proven instrumental in comprehending my clients’ needs and establishing a connection that enables the realization of their unique visions.

The expansive nature of architecture, encompassing a spectrum from history to science and beyond, is what makes it interesting. A crucial attribute for success in this field is a curious mind that spans various domains of knowledge.

And most important, a natural design instinct, which is not easily acquired, stands as the main skill for architects. It serves as the creative engine that brings ideas to life.

On the flip side, a notable challenge I encountered—and one I advise others to address early in their careers—is navigating the business and financial aspects, especially in the context of scaling. Developing acumen in these areas is crucial for sustained success in the architectural profession.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The primary challenge, pervasive across the industry and likely resonating with many, lies in addressing the ongoing labor shortage. Our efforts include enhancements to our systems and processes, investments in technology, and strategic collaboration with freelancers. Additionally, we are adopting a more discerning approach to the projects we choose to undertake.
