Meet Jose Ramos

We recently connected with Jose Ramos and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I inherited my work ethic from both my parents. My mother has always been a model of dedication and effort, showing me from a young age the importance of discipline and perseverance. Her ability to handle multiple responsibilities with a positive attitude and unwavering determination has been a great inspiration to me. My father, too, has demonstrated the value of hard work and consistency, always striving to provide and set a strong example. From both of them, I learned that hard work and dedication are essential for achieving success.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m from uptown Ny but reside in California. Born in Puerto Rico and half Dominican, I became interested in the art of dance at a very young age. I started out choreographing talent show and seeet 15 at the age of 7! I knew I wanted to become a professional at what I do because I loved it.

What’s exciting about my passion is the constant discovery and the profound connection you create between movement and meaning. My passion drives me to explore new ways to express ideas, emotions, and stories through choreography and artistic direction. It’s about the thrill of turning a blank canvas into a living, breathing performance that can evoke powerful emotions and leave a lasting impact on those who experience it. My passion lies in the endless possibilities of movement, the joy of collaboration, and the satisfaction of seeing my creative vision come to life in a way that resonates with others. Every project is a new adventure, a chance to push the boundaries of what’s possible, and to continue evolving as an artist and storyteller.

“As an artistic director, movement coach, and choreographer, I bring a dynamic blend of creativity, discipline, and vision to every project. My work is rooted in a deep understanding of the human body, movement, and the power of expression through dance and performance. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling, I craft compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. Whether guiding performers in refining their movement or orchestrating large-scale productions, I am committed to pushing boundaries and elevating the art form.”

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My top 3 important qualities , skills and or areas of knowledge are as follows

1. **Creative Vision and Innovation**: The ability to conceptualize and create original ideas that push the boundaries of traditional performance art. This includes an intuitive understanding of how movement, staging, and design can come together to tell a compelling story or evoke a specific emotion. Being innovative means constantly exploring new ways to express ideas and not being afraid to take risks in your work.

2. **Leadership and Collaboration**: As an artistic director, you need strong leadership skills to guide a team of performers, designers, and other creatives. This can involve not only directing and managing but also inspiring and motivating your team to achieve the collective vision. Collaboration is essential—knowing how to communicate your ideas effectively and working closely with others to bring a project to life.

3. **Deep Understanding of Movement and Choreography**: A profound knowledge of the human body, movement techniques, and the principles of choreography. This includes the ability to create movement that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also meaningful and purposeful. Understanding the nuances of different dance styles, physical capabilities, and how to convey emotion through movement is essential to crafting impactful performances.
