We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jose Riesco. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jose below.
Jose , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience and strength from the joy of the LORD. When I am going through a challenging time I smile and thank God because He is good. I thank Him because I know He is going to get me through any challenges that I face. This encourages me not to quit and to instead have a good attitude and finish the race.
I also like to think about this and it gives me strength, “A cheerful or happy heart is good medicine.” This means that if I can stay happy, laughing, smiling and the like it will keep me resilient. Having a healthy and positive attitude in life keeps me healthy and vigorous.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Our ministry is called, Mark 16 Ministries. We were founded by my amazingly beautiful and talented wife, Christina and I last year. Together we have been married for 10+ years and have 5+ children, all of whom help serve in our ministry. This is a family endeavor that we all do together in order to complete this great task that was given to us.
My wife, our first three children named Samantha, Grace and Priscilla and myself were all born in Chicago, Illinois. We moved to Texas during the summer of 2020 when my wife was pregnant with our 4th child, our first son named Jose Phinehas. Here in Texas we had our 5th child, named Christina last September. This is around the time we officially started this great ministry.
Our ministry specializes in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ all over the world. We like to go to places where people are completely broken and lost to share this great news. We like to go where no one else or few have gone before. Within this first year of our ministry we have traveled to and ministered in at least 12 states in our great country and we have plans to go to the whole world. We have dreams of being able to offer food to the hungry, water to the thirsty, housing to the homeless, healing for the hurting, training for those that need it and so much more.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first one I would say would be, faith. Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word to us have been the driving force of our journey. We have faith in everything He has told us and that keeps us moving forward towards the goal. The second one would be, hope. We have a great hope that we will live forever with the LORD and this drives us on to share this life changing hope with the whole world. Finally, I would say the most important thing is love. We know that God loves us. We in turn love God and we love all the people of the world. We love each other and this helps us get through anything and everything!
My advice would be to follow the Lord and live with faith, hope and love. Have faith in Him, He will get you through anything. Don’t give up your hope, keep hoping that He will get you to where you have to be. Finally, love all the time even when it’s hard. Love Him and love everyone you come in contact with. Love those who are nice to you and those who are not so nice. Love those who talk good about you and even those who do not. Love those who love you and even those who hate you. Love God and love everyone.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
This is an easy question for us. The most important book in our lives is the Bible. From it we have come into a relationship with our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. It has guided us on our journey and keeps us pushing forward to the finish line. It gives us the strength to keep traveling and loving all the beautiful people of the world. It has the correct answer either directly or indirectly for everything that you will need. It is alive and will speak to you while you are asleep, awake and everything else in the middle.
The greatest nugget I have from the Bible is found in John 3:16. It says how God loves us so much that He sent His Son to save us from destruction in order to give us eternal life. This is amazing! What a great promise that God loves us and wants to save us all. This same love is what drives us to share this message with the whole world!
Another great nugget would be where the Lord says to love human beings. We love everyone and we believe everyone should also love everyone! We all should love each other because God loves us and we are made in His image. We should love even those who do not love us. We need to be like God and love everyone unconditionally!
