Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jose Salazar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jose, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I was very fortunate to have a strong support system that always motivated me to pursue my passion and dreams. Seeing the praise and excitement that came from my biggest supporters as well as from those I’ve never even met fueled my commitment to my projects. Down the line, when more and more individuals reached out to work with me, I felt a great sense of validation. Having earned their respect and trust bolstered my self-confidence, reassuring me that I’m worth my value.
Every positive comment, feedback, or review went a long way to grow that trust in my abilities. I really have to attribute a huge part of my journey to my best friend, Amy Franklin, who made sure to always remind me how talented I am and how amazed she was with my work. It’s that type of support that keeps you going in spite of all the difficulties that arise.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Growing up, I was always captivated by the magical art of storytelling. I spent much of my childhood playing video games, diving into these awesome fantasy worlds and feeling all the emotions that accompanied them. Whether it was awe, wonder, fear, or tension I quickly realized how magical storytelling can be. No matter what the medium, getting lost in the experience is the most captivating aspect of art. I realized from a young age that I wanted to create these moments for an audience no matter how big or small.
Filmmaking is a journey; it’s an exploration of concepts, ideas, and most importantly the ability to release energy stored inside of you. To me filmmaking is one of the most powerful forms of catharsis, but the beauty is that it’s not just for yourself. Anybody can find meaning or connection through this media, provoking thought and reflection.
Many of the films I’ve made are inspired by video games, but I still find a way to channel a lot of personal emotions throughout them. My philosophy is that if just one person is able to find value in any of my projects, then it was all worth it.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Perseverance, Passion, and Patience. My three ‘P’s. You have to love what you do or else you won’t have the same drive and hunger for success. Find your soul within your endeavor and stop at nothing to reach the peak of that mountain. Always reflect upon your ambitions and visualize your accomplishments. Everything you could possibly want is within you, you only have to manifest it to make it a reality. Realize that you’ll have setbacks along the way, but it’s that fire that will guide you to the path you need to be. Once you embrace the burning desire within you, everything will be within reach.
Set goals but also remember to take things at your own pace. You’re not competing with anybody but yourself. Don’t let the fear of failure restrict you. Just keep on creating.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Take a step back, breathe, and recollect yourself. Don’t be afraid to put your work down for some time while you regain your composure. A fresh mind makes a world of difference. Mediation works wonders to clear any stress or frustrations. I enjoy performing activities that have nothing to do with my current task. Try going for a walk or spending some time outdoors. Nature is the best healer.
When you feel refreshed, approach your project with baby steps: take it one small task at a time without fretting about the whole thing.
