Meet JOSEPH ALIM

We were lucky to catch up with JOSEPH ALIM recently and have shared our conversation below.

JOSEPH, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Thankfully I have always had a vivid imagination. I think in movie scenes and comedy bits when I or others around me are going through situations. Whether good or bad. There are times when I get writer’s block when working on a song. I have learned to write down whatever lines are in my head even if they don’t rhyme or flow with the previous lines of the song. It’s the act of simply letting it out. I have also learned to leave it be and come back to the song.

One of the most effective ways to keep creativity alive is to get involved in hobbies that are outside your comfort zone. For example, I am scared of the ocean and a buddy of mine pushed me to get into the water to wave board. Rock climbing is another example of something new I had never done and was pushed by the same friend. When you actually try those things you have never done and/or are scared to do, you gain so much happiness because it’s something you overcame. You just feel instantly alive because the fear becomes excitement in a weird way. As small as it may sound, it’s powerful. Confidence increases and you feel good about yourself. Your mind starts to actively generate thoughts and ideas from that one experience. Plus my body was involved and both mind and body are working during wave boarding or rock climbing. This alone helps with mental endurance and chemicals are being released in your body. Not just dopamine either.

With that being said, keeping people (specifically friends) around you who will push you outside of your safe space is crucial. Had I not had that friend pushing me, I probably would not have done any of those activities. Listening to different genres of music and watching movies that others listen and watch to have helped me keep creativity alive. Notice I said OTHER’S music and movies they listen to and watch. Not mine. You will gain so much creativity from listening to others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Joseph Alim and I am an artist from Jacksonville, FL. For the most part, I draw, make hip hop music and just launched my clothing brand online! I spoke about my brand last time I was on Voyage La which was awesome. The brand name is called “Fé” which stands for Fly élan. Fé means “faith” in Spanish & Portuguese. Each letter also stands for something…

The ‘F’ stands for Fly meaning stylish | the ‘é’ stands for élan which is a French word that means momentum, enthusiasm, a force. The website was just launched this past weekend. Shop at flyelanclothing.com !

I am also in the process of releasing my first official album titled “Faith”. It is going to be streaming on all platforms and I cannot tell you how excited I am! I plan to release the album sometime in June so stay tuned. Music videos dropping along with the album, it’s all coming together slowly but surely. The album art is the “Fé’ logo representing my brand. Fly élan is a movement.

Putting this album out is where my focus is and has been for a while now. I recently graduated college (finally), and feel like a burden has been lifted from my shoulders. This has allowed me to put more time and energy into my album and the clothing brand. The plan is to market this music and brand until the wheels fall off. I cannot wait to release all this content! It’s been a long time coming.

Check out the shop and stay tuned for future drops in both my clothing & music! Follow me @thealimcollection & @flyelanclothing

Thanks for supporting.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being consistent, dependable, and open minded. The best way to become consistent is to write your goals down on paper, your phone, whatever makes it real for you. Being dependable is something that I have always been. You want others to be able to count on you. Dependable puts you in a position for opportunities to come your way. Having an open mind can open doors which you may have never seen the first time around. It doesn’t mean you have to change who you are, it means you can learn from something or someone different from you and spark creativity from it all.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Having faith in God and myself. There is a lot of doubt some days. What is my purpose? What am I really doing here on earth? Is making music my purpose or just a therapeutic hobby for me? Is this clothing company a good idea? Will I make it out? I find trusting the process the hardest obstacle because I want to know the answer right in this moment. I dislike waiting such a long time for an answer (I still don’t have it by the way). Thus, I stick to being consistent in music and the brand. My gut tells me to keep moving up despite the rain, keep moving up despite the pain. Discovery is on the way. I can only rely on God to show me each step. Walking by faith and not by sight. I cannot handle everything life throws at me on my own and I think we all need someone to lean on. No one is truly self made.
