Meet Joseph DiBartolo

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph DiBartolo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Joseph, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Over the years, various people and life experiences have shaped my resilience. From a young age, watching my father run his businesses and navigate adversity left a lasting impression on me. The lessons he taught me, both directly and through example, have been invaluable. My ability to withstand and recover from challenges grew further during my career as a hockey player. The sport taught me how to adapt under pressure, balancing fierce competitiveness with sportsmanship. As an adult, the guidance of professional mentors in the filmmaking and entertainment industry has continued to strengthen my resilience. Their support has been crucial in helping me push forward and refine my craft while managing a business. Ultimately, my greatest source of resilience has been my loving and supportive life partner. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but having someone strong and steadfast by my side has made all the difference. I attribute much of my toughness and adaptability to her unwavering support and care.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Joseph Salvatore DiBartolo, and I’m from northern Illinois, near the Wisconsin border. I’m a business owner and filmmaker with a versatile role in the motion picture industry. I regularly work as a producer, director, director of photography, camera operator, and editor. Being a professional in this field is both unique and exhilarating, offering the rare opportunity to tell stories, create art, and entertain people.

I now own and operate JDB Productions, my film production company. My team and I specialize in a wide range of projects, including commercials, sports preview shows, narrative pieces, music videos, car crane operations, event coverage, wedding videos, and animations. We handle full-scale productions in-house while also collaborating on other sets. What sets us apart from competitors is our belief that visual storytelling transcends language. Our creative process focuses on connecting with audiences through audiovisual media, crafting stories that stir emotions. I take great pride in our portfolio and reputation, which we’ve built on positive relationships, transparency, and a commitment to quality.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Determination, adaptability, and a deep love for my craft have been the cornerstones of my career. In the face of adversity or uncharted paths, determination has guided me through uncertainty, keeping me focused on my goals. As a business owner and filmmaker, adaptability is a daily practice—whether navigating challenges in the office or on set, I’ve learned to adjust and problem-solve in real-time. Above all, my unwavering passion for the craft is the foundation that fuels these qualities, empowering me to persevere, embrace growth, and continue striving for excellence.

For those just starting their professional journey, my advice is to step outside your comfort zone and focus on honing these essential skills. Challenge yourself consistently, deepen your knowledge of your craft, and remain open to learning from others. With dedication and hard work, determination, adaptability, and a passion for your craft can be cultivated and developed into powerful tools for success.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
