Meet Joseph Handy

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph Handy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Joseph with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I get my work ethic from my parents. My dad worked three times at one point during my childhood to make sure that my family was taken care of. He always did what it took to make sure that we had what we needed and a little of what we wanted. My mother had an entrepreneurial spirit and she always had some kind of side business going. That instilled Within Me a need to create my own business

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a husband, father, entrepreneur educator, musician, and Soldier. Because of my love of music, I went to Jackson State University and majored in music education. After receiving their degree I went to the University of Southern Mississippi and got my masters in musical performance. I started my teaching career in 2007 and I taught it Chastain middle school for 17 years. However, after going through a divorce in 14 I went on a self-development journey to redefine myself. Going through that divorce was one of the most challenging times of my life and I had to make some major changes. I started reading a lot of personal development books and I eventually got excited about real estate investment. I studied content about that subject non-stop for 2 years and I bought my first investment property in 2017. Now in 2024 I have 75 rental units and I have retired from my teaching job. I wanted to be the Catalyst for change in my family’s Financial well-being. I wanted to give my children many more options than what I had when I was growing up. I plan to continue to grow my Investment Portfolio and I will teach my children hard work and prudent investment strategies throughout this process

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Willingness to learn and grow
Hard work
Soft skills

The best advice I can give for learning these skills is to try and improve in these areas every day. Taking each day one step at a time and trying to be just a little bit better each day eventually leads to huge results. Be persistent in your pursuit of your goals and you will achieve success

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
