Meet Joseph Kelly

We recently connected with Joseph Kelly and have shared our conversation below.

Joseph, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Through the lens, I’ve learned that every shadow holds its own light — and every waiting moment carries quiet wisdom. My photography captures what words often can’t: the stillness between breaths, the sacred pause before breakthrough.

Kioas was born from those pauses — from the unseen energy that walks beside us when the road feels long and the light uncertain. It’s a reminder that hope is never absent, only waiting to be noticed.

May these words and images invite you to look closer, breathe deeper, and remember — you are always being carried forward, even when you cannot yet see the way.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My creative journey has always been about connection — between energy and form, silence and expression, the seen and the unseen. Through my photography, writing, and Reiki practice, I try to capture the quiet strength that lives beneath life’s surface — the stillness that holds meaning even in our most uncertain moments.

What excites me most is the way creativity becomes a form of healing. Whether through the lens or the written word, art reminds us that we are part of something larger — that light is always present, even when filtered through shadow. I see my work as an invitation to slow down, to feel deeply, and to remember that beauty often hides in life’s simplest details.

Recently, I released three short reflective stories on Kindle — Naked Trees, We Drove with Our Lights On, and Perfectly Imperfect. Each one explores human resilience, vulnerability, and the light that emerges through our shared imperfections. I’m also expanding my photography portfolio, pairing imagery with short poetic reflections to create pieces that speak to both the heart and spirit.

At its core, my brand is about presence — showing up fully in the moment and finding grace in the journey. If my work helps even one person feel seen, comforted, or inspired to keep moving forward, then I’ve done what I came here to do.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three Most Important Skills/Qualities

Presence – I strive to be fully engaged in each moment, whether behind the camera, at my writing desk, or simply observing the world. This attentiveness allows me to capture subtle beauty and meaning that often goes unnoticed.

Resilience – Life, like art, is full of unexpected twists. Resilience allows me to keep showing up, creating, and finding hope, even when the path feels uncertain or the work feels unfinished.

Empathy – Understanding and feeling what others experience informs everything I do. Empathy helps my work resonate on a deeper level, allowing the stories I tell and the images I create to touch hearts and spark reflection.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

The biggest challenge I continue to face is my voice disorder. It takes courage to want to be heard when so often others do not fully understand what I am saying. Yet, this struggle has shaped my work and my life in profound ways — teaching patience, resilience, and the importance of showing up even when the path isn’t easy. It has deepened my empathy and strengthened my commitment to connecting with others through art, writing, and energy that transcends words.
