We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joseph L a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Joseph, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I can still picture my dad, sleeves rolled up, working tirelessly in the jewelers bench, even on weekends. His dedication to hard work was infectious. At home, there was a constant hum of activity, and a sense of urgency to get things done. Playtime was a reward, not a right, earned only after chores were completed.

The routines and discipline I learned at home were invaluable. Waking up early to study, tackling homework with focus, and approaching tasks with a sense of purpose became second nature. These habits not only improved my academic performance but also fostered a strong work ethic that would serve me well in my future endeavors.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Today, I’ve taken the work ethic I honed and married it with my skills as a second-generation jeweler to create a truly unique business concept. Our studio at LaProng Jewelers offers a hands-on, single-day experience where clients can step behind the scenes and design their own engagement or wedding rings to take home at the end of the day.

Imagine crafting a symbol of your love, shaping precious metals, and selecting sparkling gemstones, all under the guidance of our skilled artisans. This immersive experience transforms the traditional jewelry shopping journey into a memorable and meaningful event. By creating their own pieces, our clients invest not only in beautiful jewelry but also in a cherished memory.

We’re not just selling jewelry; we’re selling experiences. Our studio offers a behind-the-scenes look at the intricate process of jewelry making, allowing clients to appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship involved. Witness the joy and excitement as couples collaborate to create their dream rings, a tangible expression of their bond.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Throughout my journey, I’ve learned the importance of working with urgency, following through on commitments, and maintaining a positive attitude. These principles have guided me in building this unique business and continue to inspire me to strive for excellence.
