We were lucky to catch up with Joseph Longhany recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joseph , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I’ve been fortunate to find deep purpose in the work we do at Plant Prana Wellness | Microgreens.
It began with a health crisis in July 2016, just after my 38th birthday. At a routine check-up, my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. I was 250 pounds, stuck in a failing marriage, and felt like everything was unraveling. It felt like the end. But life was quietly preparing me for a new way forward.
When my ex-wife confirmed in December that she was moving out in January, I finally hit the bottom. That’s when I committed to a 30-day yoga challenge. The daily practice gave me hope. In the stillness of yoga, the noise in my head began to quiet, and I could finally hear my intuition. Out of that silence, a simple but clear message emerged: Eat plants.
I’m grateful I listened to that voice because it changed everything. In mid-December, I began a whole-food, plant-based journey. Simple. I ate what came from the ground and what grew from trees. The weight began melting off, my acne disappeared, and by March my clothes were hanging loose. At my annual check-up in July 2017, I weighed 180 pounds and had completely reversed the pre-diabetes.
I’ve stayed on this lifestyle—eating exclusively plants—and I remain healthy and vibrant. That dramatic transformation became the spark for my life’s work: a mission to empower people toward healthy living. Today, most people are trapped in cycles of processed foods and animal products that slowly erode health. But there is another way—a plant-powered way—that helps people ditch the pills and ills and instead live vibrantly, freely, and healthfully.
My journey, which started with yoga and led me to a plant-based lifestyle, revealed a powerful truth: people can take control of their health. And the nutrition science is clear—a plant-based diet isn’t just for a select few. It works for anyone who’s ready to embrace it.
That’s why we created Plant Prana Wellness. We’re more than a business—we’re a mission-centered movement. We stand with people at every stage of their healing journey, dreaming of a plant-powered world and working daily to bring that vision to life.
If there’s one nugget I’d leave with someone searching for their purpose, it’s this: great work is mission-driven. It doesn’t come from trends—it comes from listening to the quiet truth inside you. If you can shut out the noise and give yourself the gift of stillness, your purpose will make itself known.
That’s what happened for me. And now, through Plant Prana Wellness, my wife and I are honored to help others reclaim their health, one plate at a time. If this resonates with you, I invite you to connect with us online—join our community, learn, and begin your own plant-powered transformation

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At Plant Prana Wellness, our mission is simple but powerful: to help people reclaim their health through plants. We do this in a few ways that we’re especially excited about.
First, we teach. One of the most meaningful parts of our work is leading local workshops where people learn how to grow microgreens and how to enjoy a plant-powered lifestyle. These classes are hands-on, fun, and designed to empower people with the skills and confidence to start their own journey toward healthier living.
Second, we equip. For those who want to bring the growing experience home, we’ve created microgreen grow kits—complete with everything you need to grow nutrient-dense greens right on your countertop. They’re simple, sustainable, and available for purchase on our website.
Third, we serve our community. You’ll find us each week at five Central Florida farmers markets, where we connect face-to-face with our neighbors, share our greens, and build community around plant-powered living. We also offer local delivery in the Orlando area, making it easier than ever for people to keep their fridge stocked with fresh, living food.
What makes our work most exciting is watching people light up when they realize they can take charge of their health—and that it can be joyful, delicious, and deeply empowering. Whether it’s someone harvesting their first tray of broccoli microgreens at home or discovering a favorite mix at the market, we get to witness transformation in real time.
As for what’s new, we’re continuing to expand our educational workshops and are always refining our kits to make them even more user-friendly and impactful. Our vision is bigger than just selling microgreens—it’s about sparking a movement toward vibrant, plant-powered living.
We’d love for you to join us—whether that’s attending a workshop, visiting us at a market, trying out a grow kit, or simply connecting with us online to learn more.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, the three qualities that shaped my journey have been mission, resilience, and preparation.
First, mission. There’s a big difference between being a missionary and being a mercenary. A mercenary is in it for the money, but a missionary is in it for the cause. At Plant Prana Wellness, we’re missionaries. We’re not just selling trays of microgreens or grow kits—we’re building a movement, a community, and a vision of a healthier, plant-powered world. That sense of purpose gives us staying power. My advice to anyone just starting out is this: before you worry about products, pricing, or platforms, get crystal clear on your “why.” When your work is tied to a mission, you’ll have the determination to keep going even when the path gets tough.
Second, resilience. This journey hasn’t been easy, but challenge has a way of refining us. When setbacks come, you can either see them as walls or as invitations to grow stronger. My advice: lean into difficulty as part of the process. It’s often in the struggle that you discover what you’re really made of.
Third, preparation. I’ve learned that what looks like luck is really just preparation meeting opportunity. Every book I read, every skill I honed, every time I said “yes” to learning something new—it all added up so that when opportunities came, I was ready. For those starting out, my advice is simple: keep learning, keep preparing, keep sharpening your tools. You may not know when your moment will come, but when it does, you’ll be ready to step into it.
In the end, success isn’t about chasing money—it’s about joining a cause that matters and being prepared when life opens the door. That’s what makes this work bigger than a product. It’s about creating something people can believe in, something they want to be part of.
