Meet Joseph Tompkins

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph Tompkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Joseph , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from my own life experiences. As a child, my family didn’t have much and moved around a lot due to financial hardship but we kept going. I promised myself that once I got out into the world for myself I would never struggle again but boy was I wrong. I traveled the world with the military all to come back home and be greeted with the worst financial hardship of my life, which escalated to me being homeless but I never gave up on that promise. I begged for a second chance at life and he answered my prayers. Slowly I began to see my life get better and better then I started my business “Black Success” and my life took off like a rocket. I’m thankful for gods grace and mercy during those tough times. I might have been homeless but I learned so much about life and myself that use to pour back into my community today.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Joseph Tompkins and I’m the Founder and CEO of the Black Success Association since starting my business in 2016 I’m happy to see my brand initially start as a clothing/non-profit and grow into what it is today. Yes we are still dedicated to giving back to the community and yes we are still one of the most popular social justice clothing brands around but the ceiling is so much higher for us. Over the past 2 years, we have turned into a brand that hosts events for people from all walks of life to not only have a good time but also to network and build their brands. I wrote a book “How to turn social media into Unlimited Income” which is geared around showing people how to start a business from scratch and make money to support their family. I’m just Proud of where we are as a business but we have so much more to do. This year we have also released a fragrance called “Remarkable” so feel free to click the link and enjoy this amazing fragrance https://myscnt.me/3RtXuRX.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three things helped me on my journey one starting the business. We get so caught up in getting everything right that we forget to just start and learn along the way. The Second is Never be afraid to fail. Whether it’s in business or life failure comes with the job the more you embrace it the more lessons you learn and the faster your recovery. The third but most important is to remain Genuine. Be yourself and never let anyone take that from you. People respond and support you more when they can relate and know that you’re real. So tell your story leave nothing out and walk in your truth.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The greatest lesson I learned from my mother was that you don’t have to have everything to have everything. As a child, I had no idea what that meant but as a man, I’m thankful that even though I didn’t have fancy clothes and the latest electronics growing up I still had everything that mattered. I had love, support, and family. Never forget to value the people around you who motivate you whether it’s family or someone on social media. Remember You have everything you need to be great.
