Meet Josh Baker

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Josh Baker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Josh, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence? It’s that unwavering self-belief in your own abilities. It’s a magnet, drawing folks, clients, and opportunities to your doorstep. Some are born with it, others sweat for it. My confidence? It grew as I proved, time and again, that I can make a promise and stand by it, repeatedly. Sometimes, all it takes is 20 seconds of audacity to rewrite your life’s story. If you’re short on confidence, practice it. Start small, make your voice heard, own a meeting, and declare your desires without hesitation. Pretend till you believe – it works. With time, it won’t be an act; it’ll be genuine. Yet, at the core of it all, you must master your craft to banish that nagging imposter syndrome.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My career journey? It’s been a wild ride! I started out making videos for fun, and now it’s my full-time profession. Like many in this field, I’ve had to wear many hats, but as I grew in the industry, I realized I needed to up my game as a Director to keep clients from thinking my productions were just a fancy home video. I also found some creative niches that were crying out for attention – and boy, it’s been a blast taking them from “meh” to “OMG!”

The best part? Watching my creative ideas and advertising mojo actually make a real difference and move the needle for their business.

On a personal note, I’m a mix of a left-brained numbers guy and a right-brained artist and musician. That unique blend has come in handy in video production, where attention to detail and spontaneous creativity go hand in hand.

Looking ahead, I’d like to try my hand in long-form projects, like reality TV or docu-series. Ideas are brewing, and who knows, maybe one day you’ll be binge-watching my masterpieces on Netflix. Dreams are the spice of life, after all!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Master your craft. No expertise, no respect, no followers. Dive deep into the mechanics, nuances, and terminology of your industry. Confidence follows competence.

Outwork everyone. Be the early bird, late leaver, and always operate with excellence. It’s simple but never trivial – a robust work ethic is a must.

Attitude matters. You’ll experience exploitation, toil, neglect, and meager pay. Yet, cling to positivity and a stellar outlook. No finger-pointing; own your destiny. Seek the silver lining; you’ll find it.

Bonus: Patience and perseverance. Usually if you think it’s going to take a year it takes 3. Delay gratification and play the long game. My favorite quote by Abraham Lincoln, “I will study, I will prepare, and my opportunity will come.”

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Avoiding conflict has been a major struggle and weak point in my life. Conflict is inevitable and avoiding it doesn’t help anyone. Be honest, assertive and speak up for yourself. Live honestly and say what you believe. Your voice is just as important as anyone else’s. You were not meant to be silent. You have a purpose, a voice and a point of view that can help so many others.

My challenge to you, stop being so nice and say what you want. Don’t live with regret, go get it.
