Meet Josh Datánt

 

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Josh Datánt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Josh, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I discovered my purpose very young. It’s always been in creativity, specifically music. I love making music and in my opinion it’s all I really truly know how to do.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a California native now based in Texas, primarily operating in the vibrant musical scenes of Austin, San Antonio, Nashville, Los Angeles, and the Bay area. Hailing from Los Angeles, my artistic journey began in the eclectic beach community of Venice. My early fascination with both film and music led me to pick up the guitar at the age of ten, eventually mastering fifteen or so different instruments.and later focusing my musical efforts on scoring films.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Number one is obviously an understanding of music, number two would be the ability to network and meet people and number three would be the ability to collaborate with people that don’t necessarily understand music the same way as you might. Often times I work with directors that say things like it sounds to happy or too pink or too busy and I find myself having to decipher what those things mean, especially when they don’t play an instrument. You have to be able to adapt and get inside a persons head and figure out what they want.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m always looking for people to collaborate with. Especially film directors and musicians. I enjoy the film and music making process very much and am always trying to expand my horizons.
