Meet Josh singleton

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Josh Singleton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Josh, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Honestly creativity is about the main thing that drives me. Life can get you down and just beat you to the pulp but spending time making art and creating things brings a major joy to most people I know especially myself. Creating digital art is always very fun and something I can’t help but do at times. I just get an idea in my head and just throw it together and sometimes it works out well sometimes it doesn’t but the process is what honestly is the joyous part which I mean everyone should know that if you make art in any fashion.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Anymore it’s just about making art. I’ve been creating designs for clothes for the 6 years. Recently been getting into doing more painting and multi media items. From paintings that have screen printed designs Incorporated with them. Also I’ve been creating a lot of items out of recycled skateboards which is are super upcycled pieces.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Basically just learning as much of every process as possible. Learning how colors and designs fit on certain garments on certain canvases. Cuz I used to print for a lot of different companies and brands that taught me a lot on what goes well on certain pieces and what doesn’t. How sizes fit impact how things look. Learning how to make your own art. Understanding the knowledge of screen printing or embroidery if those are things you’re going to use so when you’re working with whoever is actually making the items you are going to have you understand what they need from you to make things come out how you want them to be.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Not having enough time is always my biggest Factor. When I do get enough time I try to run with everything I possibly can and it probably hinders what I do cuz I’m not entirely focused on one thing. Sometimes it works out because then I end up completing several things at once that can be released simultaneously. Everyone’s super busy these days so it makes it hard. Once I get to finish product out there then it’s just a struggle of having time to try and go out to an event so people can see it and then the items be sold so then I can repeat the whole process again and again.
