Meet Joshelyn Salton

We were lucky to catch up with Joshelyn Salton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Joshelyn, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from God, people, and past failures. Growing up I’ve always been ambitious and pushed to reach my goal especially if I failed the first time. My father always taught me to get back up from the time he taught me how to ride a bike till the college years ended and till this present day. The worst thing you can do is give up (this was also taught by my dad). Failures only happen when you don’t try,

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I have been in the healthcare profession for over 10 years. My career background is in respiratory therapy. Although, I have been a respiratory therapist for only six years, when I was in college, I handmade wigs for myself and friends that were in need just for fun. Adjusted Crowns is a hair replacement/cranial prosthesis business that I started. Cranial prosthetics are medical wigs. I create cosmetic wigs, provide custom hair replacement pieces (toppers & toupees) and medical wigs for individuals that suffer from hair loss. I create wigs for children and adults based on their desired to look. Cranial prosthetics (medical wigs) can be covered through your medical insurance & I am currently in network with Medicaid of Wisconsin. How awesome is that! I get to help individuals that suffer from hair loss get wigs for a little to no charge. It feels me with joy to see children smile, because they look like the little baby dolls that they admire. It expand my heart to watch men and women cry tears of joy because they finally found a safe space to express the internal damage and can now take on a new perspective. They get an increase in self esteem the idea of a new hairpiece. The most exciting part of this is being able to reshape ones confidence from the inside out. This dream has led me to interview on two news productions, and we are now offering virtual consultations for individuals that need this assistance in other states.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

One of the best qualities that I’ve conducted in my time is having experience in one-on-one patient care. A lot of the clients that I have are very sick and they have feelings and don’t want to be treated like a ticket number. I was able to have personal conversations with multiple different patients in my time of healthcare experience. It has developed through trial & error in a way that I know what to do when it comes to Communicating with hospital based clients. Another quality that I’ve possessed was understanding the pathophysiology of different diseases for example, alopecia is a very common cause to hair loss and understanding the different types of alopecia, where they stem from in the symptoms, gives me the luxury of knowing what suggestions to give in terms of what types of doctors and dermatologist I can refer my client to, Customer Service has to be one of the biggest skills that I’ve ever mastered. People want to feel like you and they want to know that you’re trustworthy. I personally do not like when people have poor customer service and it weakens my heart To give people a bad impression it is my goal to make every experience memorable. The best advice I can give to anyone that is starting a business or looking to create a business similar to this one is to Always keep The client first. Customer Service is going to be your best skill And learning and understanding what you do and how you can make whatever area of business your in better Is key Everything else comes with trial and error. Pace yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for help and advice from others that are doing what you want to do.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

One of my biggest goals is to be able to collaborate with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and St. Jude’s hospital. The best way to reach me is via phone or email.
