We recently connected with Joshica Kiah Craig and have shared our conversation below.
Joshica , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
We draw inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, including classic rock, soul, blues, and Americana. By exploring different styles and sounds, we continuously enrich our music, ensuring that our work remains fresh and captivating. This openness to diverse influences allows us to blend raw rock energy with soulful melodies, creating a sound that resonates with a broad audience. We also thrive on collaboration. Our creative process involves a constant exchange of ideas, where each brings our unique perspective and skills to the table. Dominique often gets inspiration from his dreams. He dreams of songs and lyrics. He initially learned how to play the guitar from his dreams and he continues to have a spiritual connection to his music.
Our music is deeply rooted in storytelling, with themes that explore unity, resilience, and personal growth. We find creativity in crafting narratives that connect with listeners on an emotional level. By focusing on authentic and relatable stories, we ensure our music remains meaningful and impactful. We’re also both military veterans who channel our life experiences into our music. Our personal journeys inform our songwriting, providing a rich tapestry of emotions and themes to draw from.
Regular rehearsals are a cornerstone of our creative process as well. During these sessions, we experiment with new arrangements and improvisational elements, allowing us to discover unexpected musical moments. This spontaneous approach keeps our performances lively and engaging, ensuring that we never become stagnant. Engaging with our community and performing at local events is another way we keep our creativity alive. Interacting with diverse audiences and participating in community projects provide fresh perspectives and new sources of inspiration.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Performing live is one of the most exhilarating aspects of our musical journey. Each performance is a unique experience, filled with the vibrant energy of the audience and our dynamic stage presence. We thrive on the connection we forge with our listeners, turning every show into a shared celebration of music and emotion. The opportunity to bring our soulful melodies and raw rock energy to life on stage is something we cherish deeply, making every concert a special event for both ourselves and our fans. As both musicians and military veterans, we are passionate about giving back to our community. We frequently perform at local events, supporting veteran initiatives and engaging with diverse audiences. This community involvement is an integral part of our identity, underscoring our dedication to using music as a force for connection and positive change. We are excited to announce the release of a new single, “USA, Hey Hey Hey,” which captures our signature blend of rock and soul with a fresh twist. The song explores themes of the spirit of America and pride in our country. They are currently working on new music while gearing up for a new year.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Our ability to craft narratives that resonate deeply with audiences has been a cornerstone of our success. Our songs often explore themes of unity, resilience, and personal growth, allowing listeners to connect on an emotional level. This skill in storytelling sets us apart, making our music not only entertaining but also meaningful and impactful. Known for our electrifying stage presence, we thrive in live settings. Our performances are characterized by a seamless blend of raw rock energy and soulful melodies, captivating audiences and creating an immersive musical experience. Our versatility in engaging different types of audiences has broadened our appeal and contributed significantly to our growing fan base. As both musicians and military veterans, our dedication to community service has played a pivotal role in our journey. We frequently perform at local events, like porchfests and block parties, using our platform to foster connections and promote positive change. This commitment to giving back has strengthened our relationship with audiences and underscored our authenticity as artists.
Our advice to one’s early in their journey is to keep living. Dominique wrote some of his best songs when he was flat broke and struggling. Sometimes you have to go through some things in life in order to have something to sing about. You also want to master your craft. Constantly work on improving your skills, whether it’s playing instruments, singing, or any other performance aspect. Versatility in your abilities allows you to adapt to different performance styles and settings. Remember when performing, engage with your audience during performances through eye contact, storytelling, or inviting participation. This interaction creates a personal connection and makes the performance more memorable. You can also develop a strong stage presence that commands attention and exudes confidence. Practice body language, movement, and facial expressions that match the mood of your performance and rehearse thoroughly. Regular rehearsals help ensure a polished and seamless performance. Use rehearsals to experiment with new ideas and refine your delivery. Also, find ways to give back to your community. Perform at local events, volunteer your time, or collaborate with community organizations. These activities can strengthen your connection to the community and showcase your talent and commitment.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The music industry is highly competitive, with countless artists vying for attention. Standing out and gaining recognition can be difficult, particularly for emerging bands. Our biggest challenge would be getting recognition and booking for music festivals and shows. We overcome this by honing our craft and focusing on our unique blend of rock and soul with a storytelling element, setting us apart from other acts. We reach out to venues to get local gigs in order to build our resume and eventually book larger venues and we engage our audience through social media and live performances, expanding our reach and building a loyal fanbase. We enhance our visibility and appeal by consistently delivering high-quality content and maintaining a strong online presence.
