Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joshua David Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joshua David, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethnic from my mom and also challenging myself each year to do better then the year before. I’m always aiming to improve my skills and work ethic.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an actor. I’ve acted on many commercials, films and some series. I’m very passionate about my career because I love that I get to step into someone else’s shoes and walk in them on every new project I’m apart of. Playing characters allows me to have any job and lifestyle I could ever imagine. I love that every set I step on is a new adventure and I never know what it’ll bring or teach me in the process. But staying open to talking to anyone and learning something from everyone I meet has helped me a lot as a performer to go deeper with the characters I play
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Faith, stamina, flexibility and being pleasant to work with. My advice would be to embrace the no’s and just realize they’re not personal it’s just business. There are more roles and opportunities out there for you! Have mental, physical and spiritual stamina. Entertainment has a lot of uncertainty and you have to have stamina to endure the long days, the no’s, the trial and error, and that’s where staying flexible will help with that. Having a positive attitude and staying connected to Elohim has giving me a great foundation. My faith in him has helped me not put the ball in anyone’s court. God is my casting director and agent. He opens all the right doors for me and that’s why I never worry about the next job I’m going to book. Being pleasant to work with also helps you get called back for the next gig. People like working with people that are nice and easy going and flexible in entertainment. Remember some of these sets are 12 hour days and it makes the days go by fast when you like the people you work with. Don’t complain do a great job at your craft and be pleasant to work with with a good attitude.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Praying to God and putting my full faith and trust in him. And studying the Bible often and surrounding myself with a likeminded tribe of people that have similar beliefs and are supportive. Having a support system has been super key to my success and also if one way doesn’t work for me then I always find another way. I don’t let myself get down I always try again and again.
