Meet Joshua Grace

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joshua Grace. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joshua below.

Joshua , thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?

One thing about me is I love to talk.
When I was younger, in middle and high school… I remember getting “grounded” by my mom for talking on the cell phone too much.
You know back then, those were the days when you had to call someone after 7/9 pm for the call to be free! Unless you were calling the same carrier. (example TMobile to TMobile , sprint to sprint, Verizon to Verizon etc;)

So ever since I was growing up into my teens learning who I was, who I was becoming I always had interest in communication and talking to people from all different backgrounds.

I was fortunate enough to be raised in very prestige neighborhoods and that allowed me to develop communication skills that others like me would lack. I grew up in some country areas, but I didn’t all sound like it.
The teachers who educated my community were from different backgrounds and highly educated. They spoke with proper grammar, and no matter the ethnicity they spoke w/ confidence and articulated sentences well. And I believe with the proper structure of my environment.. mixed with the quality of leaders around me like the teachers I had… contribute a lot to how I developed my ability to communicate.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Everything is slowly but surely growing !
We have expanded our bee hives, we started with one and now we are up to three .

I spend apart of my time with my Uhaul customers. I do run a Uhaul rental equipment company on the homestead.

Our goat heard is expanding as well. This Spring we gave birth to 7 kid goats. 2 females and 5 bucklings. Going to end up keeping the two girls and one boy !

Looking forward to adding about 20 more hens to the flock of yard birds. Not excited for the extreme heat ahead, so I am currently preparing for ways I can keep the yard birds cool.

Started a garden that’s doing really well ! Producing fresh cucumber, squash, watermelon, cantaloupe , peaches, pears, plums and asparagus !

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Honestly when it comes to this whole farming/homesteading thing.
It all comes down to knowledge. You can never learn and research enough.
Keep in mind I am new to all of this as well,
and Youtube and learning from my neighbors has been the best tool.

Being able to learn hands on from others who have doing what YOU are trying to do, for years is a gem.

Never stop learning and do not be stubborn enough to listen !

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

The biggest challenger we are facing right now on the farm is this TEXAS HEAT.
It has been very challenging finding and creating ways to keep all the animals cool.
Currently I am just going out every couple of hours replenishing the water.

To avoid it in the future we are going to be adding shade canopy’s to the areas with animal runs.
