Meet Joshua Higginbotham

We were lucky to catch up with Joshua Higginbotham recently and have shared our conversation below.

Joshua, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Being a music artist and producer and reaching success in that field was hard work, however a lot of people who have talent that look like me gain major success in the entertainment business referring to music. I’d say when I decided to apply to UCLA I’d have my first experience of being in a place where there weren’t a lot of students that looked like me. Literally every class I would be the only black student. At UCLA out of 100% of the student population blacks hold 1% of that student body. It was challenging, I didn’t have anyone to relate and I was the oldest in my class. With this being my final year since I graduate June 14th of 2024, I have management I have successfully completed my major requirement’s, I’m a double major with a minor, in Psychology and Sociology and I minor in African American Studies. I had to get through the imposter syndrome of not thinking I belonged and having no sense of community and I managed to make it!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a music producer, music artist and musician that goes by JoeeBilli. What that simply means is JoshOverEverything and Billi for one day I plan on being a Billionaire. I’ve produced for legendary acts and independent acts in Hip Hop and R&B music, some to name, Mac Miller (Wedding) , Casey Veggies (set it off, and I’m blessed), Nipsey Hussle (Between Us ft K Camp). I mostly made a great career of producing and recording a plethora of independent artist with big names such as Female MC Siya and Shaq n Livin (Soon You’ll Understand) mixtape. I’ve traveled the world touring to my own music, now adays I’m producing myself and dropping music as an Artist. Currently I’m finishing up UCLA where I graduate in June to pursue my masters in education where I plan on being a School Psychologist. Music is my heart, and as I build myself now as a Music Artist, I understand the importance of having a back up plan and following my dreams of being a success as a music artist now while still following a career path outside of music that can help me be successful as well. The best part of my career is when I dropped my first album “The Billi Show”. It went worldwide and gave me so many opportunities that I’m still privileged to be taking advantage of til this day. I still produce music as well. If you’re a independent artist that needs musical services I now have a company called Billionaire Sound Records that can help you! Upcoming when I graduate I plan on dropping my final album Stuck To The Plan. Which will be my final contribution to music for awhile, as I continue on to acquire my masters.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were impactful on my journey would have to be, my faith and always believing I could do anything I set my mind to. The second would be confidence in my ability to complete the steps necessary to even be in this field of music I am in to even getting into the number 1 university in the country with a 9% rate of admission. Finally the 3rd quality would be the hard work and hours I put in to even get a placement with a legend in my genre of music such as Mac Miller. I will be paid for the rest of my life just off one placement due to it being his fan base’s favorite song. I would say, if you have these qualifications and feel the same about yourself in your field to not stop nor give up and to keep working, you never know where the hard work could take you.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking for talent to collaborate with. If you’re in Los Angeles, I own my own studio and I have a lot of knowledge and connections on how to complete your musical goals. So if you’re looking for beats, I can help you with that, if you’re looking to record, I can help you with that, if you’re looking for songwriting I can help you with that and so on. You can contact me from my social media @joeebilli or you can email my company and someone will get back to you billionairesoundrecords@gmail.com
