We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joshua McQueen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
Growing up, I didn’t have much. I was raised by a single mom who at one point worked three different jobs while attending night classes for a career switch. I learned at a young age, it didn’t matter what I had or how much of it I had, I needed to appreciate it and share with others that didn’t have much as well. Over the years I kept that same mentality, and in time Ive been able to help others in need, not because I’m looking for recognition but because I know what it is like to not have anything.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
What’s up y’all, Josh here but on social media I go by RevMac (@rev__mac). My slogan, ” Fedex by day, Golfer when the wife allows it!” My content is centered around golf, and all things golf. However, this year I will be trying to showcase more of my personality outside of golf. Things you can find on my page: product reviews, humor skits, collabs with other creators, fatherhood and being a husband. I try to keep my page around three aspects, golf, dad hood and being husband. I really enjoy working with other creators and helping showcase brands. When it comes to content I keep it genuine and real, if something feels forced or off, I just stop recording for a bit and revisit it when I feel right. The same person you see on the videos is the same person showing up to your tee time for BBQ, I promise you. This year my focus is to try and work with as many creators as possible, build a community to where we can give back to people who can’t afford to play the sport I love. As a kid growing up, I didn’t have the privilege to play golf because of how expensive the game is, I would always ask myself “why not me” and it sucked. No kids or person trying to play a new sport should feel like they can’t participate in something because of situational or financial reason. I want to change that.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Vulnerability, number one for sure. Its really hard to put yourself out there on a platform for the entire world to see, not everyone is nice or supportive, lol. Also, you have to let the people who are more successful help you and guide, listen to what they are saying and appreciate the feedback.
Grit, if you want something its not going to come easy. You have to be willing to put in the time and work, all while doing it the right way.
Enjoy the process or journey. this is an ongoing trip with no end date. be ready to learn and adapt daily. do worry about the numbers, or follows or likes. Just put in the work, and all that will come in time. Have fun with it.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Spending every minute with my wife and son, doing whatever they wanted to do. Seeing them happy, especially my son is the greatest feeling in the world.
