We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Josiah Arment a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Josiah, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My family on my Father’s side was always a very musical extroverted type of family. Everyone either sang, played guitar or piano or all three. They performed many times and were well known across Vail and Aspen CO. I remember my very first time on stage I was 4 singing “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash at a big church venue in Vail. Since then a lot had changed but I always kept that little spark in me that knew I was meant to be an example out there. I knew I was meant to be an entertainer! Years went by and a lot of hard times until one day when I was 19 I found that spark again. I began performing in a lot of venues with different bands across Denver. I knew that this had to be a purpose of mine. Something bigger that my soul was trying to tell me and guide me towards all these years. I went after acting as well and dancing. I was chosen for modeling by different designers and I knew that the performing arts were calling me. Whatever you believe in there are universal signs that will tell where you need to be if you just hold still and listen. Listen to your heart and a non anxious sound mind. Follow what inspires you and you will be lead to higher purposes.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Josiah and I am an international published model, actor and artist.
The most exciting part of doing what I do is the thrill and expression that one gets to have as an artist. Being able to apply yourself in so many different ways with every gig you get. I love to perform to show the world who I am and I love to act to become other characters and express their stories as well as mine. It’s the love for the art itself that keeps the artist fed.
I love to help out other artists and dreamers! I co own a billboard in Times Square NYC to help promote other artists and their work! The world needs to just believe in itself again!
Coming soon this month I will also be a judge for Colorado’s Next Top Model! Make sure to sign up and submit yourself!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say the three most important things any entertainer, artist or model needs to have would be:
Belief in yourself/confidence – This is hugely important. Maybe more so than anything else. No matter who you are or where you come from you need to start with a firm belief in yourself. There’s a big difference of being full of yourself or cocky and just having a strong belief and confidence. It starts with knowing who you are and every day it may sound silly but you can look in the mirror and compliment yourself, give yourself those affirmations because you deserve to be heard!
Drive/dedication – All hard work pays off and you only get as much as you put in. If you are focused and 100% determined, nothing can stand in your way. If you can see through rejection that it never means the end and view failing as nothing but a stepping stone then you’re invincible. These things may sound hard to do but through perseverance and to keep going no matter what happens and not giving up will serve you the best in your career.
Love/passion – Behind everything we do should be love and passion. Having a love for the art and the work that you put out will make life so much more fulfilling. A love for what you do will also show in your work or your finished project, it makes it stand out. Most importantly we have to spread love in everything we do. As artists the message we are giving should be understood and relatable to our listeners or viewers. The same feelings we all share as humans are what make some of the best songs.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I believe that a mindset of daily growth and getting even just 1% better every day is the best! Of course we can use our strengths to keep our passion flowing, to keep from becoming rusty and improve to become the best at what we do. However it’s always good to learn new things daily and grow ourselves by expanding our set of skills to only get better and better. I never knew I would be where I’m at today in modeling because I was primarily going after music and acting. After getting discovered in modeling I kept growing that knowledge and that passion and it became a very dominant part of my career.
