Meet Josie Pearson

We recently connected with Josie Pearson and have shared our conversation below.

Josie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by following my heart and my gut- both at the same time, which isn’t always easy I have come to learn. This is a skill I work on daily but I personally think is vital if you want to live a purposeful life and explore all options.

As a kid, I always seemed to be naturally drawn to wild, natural world. Whether it was drawing them in art class (at least attempting to as I have never been a good drawer in my opinion) or become ecstatic anytime my family and I were going to spend all day outside either local or doing a longer trip.

A lot of how a grew up, where I grew up, shaped my love for the outdoors and now, being that in my twenties, given me purpose- the want to show people the need to protect what’s wild by capturing the wildest moments on camera to show just how beautiful and worth saving these landscapes really are.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a wildlife and landscape photographer that calls Colorado home, however, I love any chance I get to travel and photographing the natural world all over the world, if I can.

I love capturing nature during its wildest moments, something we either take for granted or don’t even know about because of our ever developing world. I hope that my love for these rugged landscapes and beautiful creatures shines through my work, making you feel that we need to keep things the way they are- wild.

If I can invoke these kind of emotions within you, when looking at my work, I know there is true power to emotion and us humans can do great things when we feel and can become passionate about an issue that needs to be addressed.

Well, I feel that because we are constantly encroaching on our natural world, we will soon be left with nothing but a concrete jungle, the sort of choices that will effect more then we can even imagine right now. The more we become out of touch with nature, the more we are hurting ourselves as a society but there can always improvement, we just have to come together and making a conscious choice to change.

I have created a collection over the years, sharing my photos here and there on my social media account @two_escapers and with family/friends, but just recently launched an official photography website so people can not only look at my work but buy them to display in their home, office, etc. that will hopefully remind them of the natural beauty that is around them. Every photo has a story and I hope to share all of my photo’s story’s one day to whomever is willing to listen.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Yes and that challenge is grief- a challenge I know I will have to navigate for the rest of my life.

I lost my dad to cancer two years ago (as of November) so the loss is pretty fresh for my family and I.

The challenge with loss is how different you begin to see the world/people and your perspective of how to live life really does change, at least that has been my experience. So I often find myself saying “why not?” and when others seem to not understand my push to take the path less traveled or choose something that makes you feel uncomfortable, I sometimes find my own self frustrated.

Life is short so why not live it to the fullest and try new things?

There is a push and pull once you experience grief because you want to live life fully by doing all these things that are almost on you “bucket, to do list” but yet you want to soak all of what is happening in life up. All I can say is just try your best and roll with punches.
